Doss Dominates Montana 200

Via NSLMS Media

Kalispell, MT (July 21, 2018) In his fifth outing at the prestigious Montana 200, Jeremy Doss (Upper Lake, CA) nearly lapped the entire 24-car field on his way to the checkered flag and $10,000 check waiting for him in victory lane. This was Doss’s second Montana 200 win. A mix of drivers from Montana, Idaho, Washington, Nevada, British Columbia, Albert and Saskatoon made up the field.

Doss, who started the day third in the field, took the lead from pole setter Preston Peltier (Fort Lupton, CO) and never looked back. At the end of the day, Doss had lapped all but the second, third and fourth place cars of Preston Peltier, Owen Riddle (Naches, WA) and Clint Habart (Cranbrook, BC, Canada). A caution free second half kept any drivers from receiving the lucky dog award. Peltier was strong and set a good pace, leading the early stages of the race, but didn’t have enough to keep up with Doss to the checkered.

Peltier set a blistering qualifying lap to take the pole, which locked him into the front row of the feature event regardless of where he finished in his positioning heat. Jan Evans (E. Wenatchee, WA), who qualified second fast, was also locked into the front row. Twenty-eight cars qualified in an attempt to secure positions for the 24-car field.

With distributor issues going into qualifying, Owen Riddle had his work cut out for him, having to come from the B-Main to secure his starting position. Riddle quickly made his way to the top four by the end of the first half and took over third in the closing laps of the event.

Clint Habart was fast throughout the weekend, sat on top of the charts Thursday and Friday, and started in the sixth position. Battling back and forth with Peltier for the second position through a good part of the race, Habart slid back to fourth at the end of the day.

Braeden Havens (Spokane, WA) rounded out the top 5 after coming through the B-Main. Havens quickly moved into the fifth position and stayed on the lead lap until the final laps, when Doss lapped him.

Outside qualifier Jan Evans dropped back a few positions in the early laps and tangled with his Dad, Garrett Evans (E. Wenatchee, WA), who had improved several positions after coming through the B-Main. The resulting contact sent both drivers to the pits for repairs and restarting from the rear of the field. Both drivers went down a lap with Doss’s sizzling pace. Though they didn’t get the opportunity to get back on the lead lap, both ran well, Jan was running ahead of the fourth-place car of Clint Habart at the checkered, finishing in the sixth position.

2017 Champion, Brittney Zamora (Kennewick, WA) made her first start in the Montana 200. Securing a position in the top 12 to start the event, Zamora held on for a seventh-place finish in her first attempt.

$5,000 To Win Summer Speedfest On Deck For Madera Speedway

Via Madera Speedway Media

MADERA, CALIFORNIA (July 24, 2018) – The $5,000 to win Summer Speedfest 100 for the RPM Mortgage Pro Late Model Series at Madera Speedway is this Saturday night, marking the sixth race of the prestigious MAVTV-televised series. Clovis’ Austin Herzog and La Grange’s Matt Erickson are engaged in a heated championship battle that will come to a head in one of the biggest shows of the season.

MAVTV-televised racing for the 51FIFTY Energy Drink Jr. Late Models and Mini Cups vs. Bandoleros along with Modified Super Toyotas are also scheduled to compete.

Matt Erickson won the Reverend Ron Spencer Red, White, and Blue Classic on June 30th to extend his reign as the winningest driver in Madera Late Model history. His third win of the season also propelled him past $10,000 in winnings for the season and placed him just 12 points behind points leader Austin Herzog.

Herzog, 15, has not won a series race but finished sixth in the standings in 2017 as the series Rookie of the Year. He also has six 51FIFTY Jr. Late Model wins on his resume. A third place place finish on June 30th gives him three consecutive podiums.

Modesto’s Garland Tyler is third in the RPM championship ahead of Ryan Hart and May winner Racin Vernon of Bakersfield. Jason Aguirre won the non-televised Madera Late Model race on July 14th and was second in the last RPM race on June 30th as perhaps the driver with the most momentum this summer.

The Summer Speedfest is a 100 lap feature with a scheduled break at lap 50. A 25 lap B Main is also scheduled, with the transferring cars moving on after lap 15. The final 10 laps is a run to a $500 victory for the highest non-transfer.

Jesse Love IV is proving that his 2017 51FIFTY Jr. Late Model championship was no fluke, charging to his third victory of the year in June and leading the points by 23 over two-time 2018 winner Dylan Zampa of Napa. While these two have dominated victory lane, the battling behind them has been strong with Las Vegas’ Tanner Reif, Bakersfield’s Kabe McClenny, and Las Vegas’ Tyler Reif eager for their first wins.

Third year drivers Austin Edwards and Lilly Mead trail them from sixth and seventh in the standings as well. Kayla Eshleman of Fontana has overcame low starting positions to put together four top-fives as well.

The Jr. Late Models race for 70 laps on Saturday with a scheduled break at lap 40.

Bakersfield drivers have set the standard in the inaugural Mini Cups vs. Bandoleros series. On the Bandolero side, Riley Massey and Zachary Ginn are at the top of the points with Massey grabbing two wins while Ginn has two runner-up finishes. 2017 Kern County Raceway Park champion Kercie Jung has two wins and a second in her limited schedule this year. Her teammate Seth Wise was the winner on the night she was in the runner-up position.

In the Mini Cups, Bakersfield’s Kale McClenny has four wins to lead Madera’s Joseph Holliday in the standings. Jayce McArthey has also snagged a win this season.

Modified Super Toyotas have been dominated by Ryan Reynolds who has built up a 36 point lead over Patrick Geiger. Bert Stephens, Dave Lander, and Shaun Reynolds round out a closely matched top-five.

Action gets started on Friday evening with practice from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. Saturday’s program begins with pit gates opening at 12:00 p.m. Practices run from 2 – 3:30 p.m. with qualifying and heat races to follow. The first set of main events starts at 5:30 including the Mini Cup feature and the Late Model B Main. Opening ceremonies are at 6:30 p.m.

Tickets for the Summer Speedfest are just $15 for adults, $13 for seniors, $7 for youth ages 6-12, and kids five and under are free!

Moulton Returns To Form While Price Cashes In

Eureka, CA (July 23, 2018) – The 2018 season at Redwood Acres Raceway is rapidly coming to a close with this Saturday night’s Harper Motors Night at the Races marking four races left on the schedule. While the Compass Community Credit Union roadrunners had the night off, the late models returned to action. In addition, the North State Modified Series made their second visit to the Acres this season.

Lane Anderson has been fast all season in the Bandolero division and continued that by setting the fastest time in qualifying at a 21.354. Ethan Imperatrice made his first start of the season and was able to win the trophy dash and the heat race. Trey Daniels took the lead at the start of the main event and had control of it for the first six circuits. Imperatrice moved to the lead on lap seven before Daniels retook the position. Two laps later, Daniels fell out of the race giving Imperatrice the lead but in another two laps, Imperatrice also fell out. Anderson took over the top spot and was able to lead the rest of the way and score the victory. Maleesa Miles finished second followed by Aiden Kimberling and Kadence Mace. Imperatrice was scored fifth.

Qualifying for the Fortuna Wheel & Brake bombers was led by Wyatt Roach with a 18.424. Roach took the dash win while Sam Brown was the heat race winner. Brown used the pole position to his advantage in the feature event as he was able to take over and lead until lap eight. That’s when Roach took over. He was able to hold on and take his first main event win of the season. Brown and Jim Redd finished second and third.

In the NorthCoast Lighting And Electric Legends division, Brad Curtice set fast time with an 18.121. Chris Lawrence was the trophy dash victor while Aiden Daniels and Curtice were the heat race winners. The opening lap of the feature was led by David Dunlap. Lap two saw Aiden Daniels move to the front. Curtice quickly sliced his way through the field and moved to the lead on lap eight. The field spread out and Curtice was able to gap Aiden Daniels. At the finish it was Curtice taking the victory by nearly two seconds. Aiden Daniels narrowly beat Lawrence to the line for third. Kylie Daniels finished a strong fourth with Zach Frazer rounding out the top five finishers.

The ever-competitive Humboldt Hydroponics mini stocks were paced by Brian Murrell, Sr. as he set a qualifying lap of 18.980. Eugene Palmer crossed the line first in the trophy dash and Brian Murrell, Jr. winning the heat race. Nick Ford held the lead for the first five laps but contact between he and Trevor Eacret allowed Brett Murrell to move to the position. The rest of the event came down to a battle between Brett Murrell, Palmer and Murrell, Sr. As the laps clicked off, Brett Murrell was able to stretch his lead. At the finish line it was Brett Murrell winning. Palmer held off Murrell, Sr. for second while Brian Murrell, Jr. and Scott Taylor finished out the top five drivers.

Darrin Sullivan narrowly took fast time for the North State Modified Series setting a 16.548. Herman Pulyer prevailed in the Lucas Oil Dash For Cash. The invert for the 60-lap main event was 10 which put Stuart Campbell on the pole. After falling back to the third position, Eric Johnson was able to move to the lead on lap 10. Kris Price moved his way to second after 15-laps and on lap 19 he took over the race lead. Price was able to slowly pull away from the rest of the pack.

Eric Price, Jr. was a favorite going into the event but fell out just before the halfway point. Terry Deal took second from Eric Johnson with 15-laps remaining but was well behind the leader. With three laps remaining, smoke poured from Sullivan’s car taking him out of action and necessitating a caution flag. The field bunched up for a sprint to the finish however Deal was not able to get by Eric Price. At the finish it was Price holding off Deal for the win. Johnson was second ahead of Randy Houston and Dustin DeRosier.

Less than 0.056 seconds separated the top three in qualifying for the Mid-City Motor World Super Six Late Model Challenge Series with Mic Moulton setting the fastest lap. George Young was the winner of heat race number one while Luke Hall won heat number two and pole position for the NorthCoast Lighting & Electric main event.

Hall jumped to the lead at the start of the feature with Dane Nissen following him into second. David Henderson slotted into third while Moulton held fourth. With nary the sign of a caution flag, handling and tire wear proved to be more important than usual. The halfway point saw Hall still leading Nissen but third place was switched between Moulton and Henderson. The front three closed up on each other. On lap 40, Moulton maneuvered past Nissen and chased Hall for the lead. With 15 to go, Moulton took the lead from Hall. Moulton was able to slowly pull away as the rest proved to be caution-free. Moulton crossed the finish line first over Hall, Nissen and Henderson. Kenny Demello put in a solid fifth place effort.

Racing on the 3/8-mile paved oval at Redwood Acres Raceway will take a month-long break as August 18th is the next race on the schedule. Prior to that event, RAR will host the Malicious Monster Truck Insanity Tour on August 3rd and 4th. Tuff trucks will also be in action as well as monster truck rides. Saturday night will be the second boat race at the Acres in 2018.

V.I.P. pre-sale tickets for the monster truck event are available to purchase at Redwood Acres Raceway’s website www.RedwoodAcresRacing.com as well as the Redwood Acres Fair office and Fortuna Wheel & Brake. Kris Price Bags Third Win, Increases NSMS Points Lead

Via Nadine Strauss/NSMS Media

July 21, 2018 Eureka, CA.... Taking the lead on lap 20 with an inside pass on Eric Johnson of Kelseyville, Kris Price of Sacramento drove the remaining 40 laps flawlessly to collect his third season victory in the Protect the Harvest North State Modified Series at Eureka's Redwood Acres Raceway Saturday night. Price increased his NSMS points lead and now has a 41 point margin over second place Dustin DeRosier of Cloverdale.

Price collected $1000 for his win plus the $250 bonus from Ward Land Management and Development (WLM&D.) He also collected $30 from Competition Carburetors for turning the fastest lap of race (16.900), and once again earned the Keyser Hard Charger Award for passing the most cars.

Roseville driver Terry Deal drove under Johnson on lap 45 for a $850 second place finish. Johnson held off the challenges of Oregon driver Randy Houston to claim third, Houston was fourth, and DeRosier finished fifth.

Kelseyville's Darrin Sullivan earned the $100 WLM&D fast time award with his 16.548 second lap. Sullivan pulled the #10 chip for the inversion putting Stuart Campbell and Johnson in the front row. Stuart and Johnson ran side-by-side the first seven rounds with DeRosier tight on Stuart's bumper, not allowing Johnson to pull back into the low groove. Just as it looked like Johnson was losing ground, his car hooked up, and on lap 12 he passed both DeRosier and Stuart and took over the number one spot. DeRosier also shot around Stuart, but two rounds later Kris Price drove under DeRosier for second and set his sights on Johnson.

Price caught Johnson on lap 19, and when he saw an opening down low he filled the gap and drove under Johnson for the lead. Price's brother, Eric Price II developed problems and ended his run on lap 26.

Meanwhile both Deal and Houston were picking off cars as Sullivan's car began to smoke. With only three laps to go, Sullivan's engine finally gave out and his car stalled on the track to bring out the only yellow flag in the race.

The final three circuits went nose-to-tail with Kris Price first across the Sunoco checkered flag. Deal finished second, Johnson third, Houston fourth and DeRosier fifth. Rounding out the top 10 were Ian Elliot, Guy Young, Campbell, Herman Pulyer and Orion Mosher.

Pulyer was the $100 winner in the Lucas Oil Dash for Cash. Johnson finished second and donated his $50 to the North State Modified Series Driving Our Cancer Fund. Both Pulyer and Johnson also received the Scribner Plastics jugs. Avila took home the Naake Shocks certificate, and the Frank's Radios awards were given to Young, Pulyer and Mosher.

Race #7 of the North State Modified Series “Driving Out Cancer Tour” will be on August 11 at Lakeport Speedway.

The North State Modified Series is presented by: Protect the Harvest, Lucas Oil, Ward Land Management & Development, Hoosier Tire West, Sunoco Race Fuels, Naake Suspension, Five Star Bodies, Racer Bling, Keyser Racing Products, Scribner Plastics and Frank's Radios.

Cole Moore Grabs Second PCS Win Of 2018 With Stockton Triumph

Via PCS Media

STOCKTON, CALIFORNIA (July 22, 2018) – 2015 Pacific Challenge Series presented by PenneyLawyers.com Rookie of the Year Cole Moore outlasted a challenging evening at Stockton 99 Speedway for his second PCS win of the year, Saturday night. Moore came out on top over points leader Jason Romero in a thrilling battle in an attrition-shortened 60 lap sprint race.

Romero set the standard of the night early with a 13.366 lap in time trials to take the Sunoco Fuels Fast Time by .147 seconds on the field. Romero only mustered eighth in the American Racer Tire Dash while 2016 series Rookie of the Year Matt Wendt won the dash for the pole and a set of tires.

Wendt led early while third starting John Moore made slight contact with his son Cole to take second on lap two. Moore then passed Wendt for the lead on lap nine as the top nine cars ran closely together. Romero was still mired in eighth, facing a battle with Michael Sandoval.

Cole Moore and Wendt made contact in turn one for a lap ten caution, with Cole using the “tap out” rule to accept blame for the incident. It put Cole Moore to the rear of the field and Wendt back into second place.

The contact proved to cause significant damage to Wendt’s rear end, however, as he faltered coming to green causing an accordion of bumping among the field before he retired to the infield.

John Moore then spun abruptly into turn three on lap 13 while leading, gathering up former track champions Matt Scott and Dave Byrd in the process. Moore’s spin was caused by a blown engine and Scott was eliminated from the race as well. Mike Ray had his second spin of the race on the following restart, reducing the field to six cars running.

The race was then shortened by officials to 60 laps as the top six battled to the finish. Sandoval and Byrd had an incident that caused a quick yellow and bunched things up. Cole Moore took the lead from Romero on lap 20 followed by Madera winner Carlos Vieira, before Vieira faded behind the top-two. Romero showed Moore a nose on lap 43 and tried again as they approached promoter Tony Noceti’s $500 bonus for leading lap 50. Cole Moore led that lap while Romero stayed in lockstep.

They remained in lockstep down to the wire. Romero took a look inside when Cole went up the hill in turn two on the final lap. Moore wisely defended the inside line through turns three and four and motored away for his third career Pacific Challenge Series victory. Romero extended his points lead from second with Vieira, Beeler, and Sandoval the top-five. Romero also won the Penney Racing Supply Hard Charger for his run from eighth to second.

Romero now leads John Moore by 14 points with the series readying for Madera Speedway on August 11th.
