The Legends Of The Fall Classic
Wenatchee, Wash. (September 29, 2016)– When the Fall Classic at Yakima Speedway is mentioned race fans think about all the icons that have won it and the ones that have tried. This weekend the 29th Annual Fall Classic returns to Yakima Speedway in Yakima, WA with over 30 drivers trying to add their name to list of winners for this prestigious event.
Some drivers would be happy to say they’ve won it once but to say that you’ve won the race three or four times is pretty amazing. The all-time Fall Classic winner is Surrey, BC driver Pete Harding with four wins including three consecutive wins between 1997-1998. The veteran is one that many drivers keep their eye on during any racing that happens at Yakima Speedway, especially the Fall Classic.
One of the biggest moments in Fall Classic history happened in 2001 when Garrett Evans took a back of the pack challenge to pass 40 cars and win the race along with a $50,000 bonus. Evans has been dominant this season on the NWSLMS with four wins. The multi-time champion needs to take the green flag Sunday to secure his third straight NWSLMS title.
The East Wenatchee, WA driver has won the Fall Classic three times in his career but would love to add another one to his collection.
“We’ve had a great year this year and it would be unbelievable to win another Fall Classic especially since we won the Apple Cup earlier this year,” said the 60-year old Evans. “I’ve been telling a lot of people this year that ‘Old Guys’ rule and this would show it once again and prove we can get it done.”
For Tayler Riddle the win at last years Fall Classic had special meaning, as it is the Naches, WA native’s home track. The young star is looking to carry that momentum into this year’s Fall Classic along with his wins at the Summer Showdown and Galloway 150.
“I feel like there is a little pressure lifted off me after winning last year. We’ve had a really good season but haven’t raced as much as we would have liked,” Riddle said. “After winning one, you always want to win another and repeating is tough to do, especially the Fall Classic.”
For some drivers the magical Fall Classic win has eluded them for many years, one of those drivers is Tayler Riddle older brother Owen. The 30-year old has had lots of success at Yakima Speedway over the years but the Fall Classic win has eluded him. For Owen though, just finishing the race and having fun is what he is looking forward to this weekend.
“This year has not been a good one for us wrecking the car at both the Summer Showdown and Montana 200. We’ve had a few bad races here at the classic the last two years as well.” said the past Yakima Speedway Late Model Champion. “I just want to try and have some fun this weekend and at the end of the race Sunday load my car in the trailer in one piece.”
Other past Fall Classic winners in the race are Shane Harding and Mike Longton. Both drivers have had their struggles of late but look to put their name on the back of the famous Atomic Screenprinting Fall Classic sweatshirt for a second time.
With this race being the championship for the NWSLMS the points battle between Braeden Havens, Ryan Wells, Mitch Kleyn and Brittney Zamora will add to the excitement as the four drivers are separated by less than 30 points for second through fifth positions.
Other drivers to watch include Doni Wanat fresh off his win two weeks ago at WVSO. Canadian Clint Habart has been coming on strong the last few NWSLMS races with several podium finishes. Some of the local Yakima stars will be looking for big things at their home track such as Zack Beaman, JC Wofford and Jason Jefferson.
The action for the 29th Annual Fall Classic will feature the NWLSMS, WestCoast Late Models, Mini Stock Nationals and Hobby Stocks. The weekend will kick off with practice on Friday. Saturday will feature Qualifying, Trophy Dashes and Heat Races. Sunday will feature the main events including the Fall Classic 200.

Entry List For $10K To Win Short Track Shootout At Madera Released
MADERA, CALIFORNIA (September 29, 2016) – A pre-entry list of more than 50 cars has been released for the fourth annual Short Track Shootout, coming October 8th to LoanMart Madera Speedway. These drivers and many more are expected to battle for 125 laps for $10,000 to win in the prestigious MAVTV-televised event. The Short Track Shootout has grown incrementally each year to become one of the top Late Model events in the nation and serves as the eighth and final 2016 points race for the LoanMart Late Models as well.
Matt Erickson has already sewn up the championship in the series, as the all-time winningest series driver has five wins and two second place finishes this year for a commanding points lead. 2007 Altamont champion Ryan Philpott got his first win in several years when he won the most recent LoanMart LM race on September 24th and ranks second in the series standings.
Erickson and Philpott will take on challengers from all over the Western United States, including NASCAR K&N Pro Series, West champions and Short Track Shootout winners Mike David of Modesto and Eric Holmes of Escalon. For Holmes, his resume in the Short Track Shootout is 2-for-2 with the 2014 and 2015 editions, while David won it in 2013. The driver that has come the closest to victory might be 2016 NASCAR State and Irwindale Speedway champion Trevor Huddleston. Huddleston will return again for another shot at the five figure first place prize.
The top drivers from the Stockton area, who share a race shop, of Larry Tankersley and Dennis Byers will both travel south to Madera. 2015 LoanMart Late Model champion Buddy Shepherd, who is a perfect 10-for-10 at Kern County Raceway Park in 2016, returns from Bakersfield to compete as well.
2012 and 2016 Pacific Challenge Series champion Jeremy Doss of Upperlake, CA, that series' winningest driver, is also entered. Doss won the PCS event at Madera in August as part of his preparation for this race. With track and series champions from virtually every major stock car series in California represented, picking a winner will not be easy for the race fans.
Race fans will be treated to a very low ticket price thanks to sponsors LoanMart, 51FIFTY Energy Drink, and Twisted Tea. Adult tickets are now only $15, seniors and military are only $13, youth ages 6-12 are only $7, and kids five and under are free.
The jam-packed program will see the top-ten qualifiers make the show and then redraw for their starting positions. Positions 11-20 will be filled by the top-two finishers from each of the five heat races. A B Main fills out the rest of the 26 car starting lineup. The entire program is a one-day show with Friday's activities only including an optional practice. The B Main will pay $1000 to win among several bonus awards being posted. Former Altamont regular Doyal Moen, now residing in Jermone, ID, won the random draw of pre-entries to have his entry paid in full.
Not only will there be a 50 car LoanMart Late Model event, but season finales for the 51FIFTY Jr. Late Models and Super Hobby Stocks are also scheduled. The 51FIFTY Jr. Late Models are the only series of its kind in the world for drivers ages 10-16. The series is currently led by 12 year-old Dezel West of Las Vegas, with other race winners this year including 11 year-olds Austin Edwards of Mentone, CA and Ben Silliker of Alberta, Canada. 13 year-old Austin Herzog of Clovis will run double-duty in both the Jr. Late Models 50 and attempt to qualify for the Short Track Shootout 125. Several new drivers are expected to join the field for its largest car count of 2016.
A major feature event everywhere they go is the Lucas Oil Modified Series with a $5000 to win, 75 lap feature on their agenda as well. This is the second appearance of the series at Madera this season with Ukiah's Kyle Tellstrom winning on June 11th. Former Madera Speedway track champion Scott Winters of Tracy, CA is usually the top "home track" threat against drivers who come from several different western states to compete. More than 30 cars typically compete in Lucas Oil Modified Series races which are also televised on MAVTV.
LoanMart Madera Speedway's youngest drivers in the California Mini Cups get an opportunity to compete on the big stage as well.
Friday practice will see gates open for parking at 11 a.m. with cars on track from 3 p.m. - 9 p.m. Saturday will start early with pits opening at 9 a.m. Practice will begin at 10:30 a.m. with qualifying at 12:45 p.m., heat races, Modified and Late Model b-mains, and the Mini Cup main event at 3:30 p.m. Opening ceremonies will be at 5:30 p.m. with the features for the Late Models, Jr. Late Models, Super Hobby Stocks, and Lucas Oil Modifieds.

Gilliland Clinches Sunoco Rookie Title
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Todd Gilliland proved he was the driver to beat this season in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West, and he's already started collecting the trophies.
In addition to his series-high six wins, the 16-year-old from Sherrills Ford, North Carolina, has already clinched the 2016 Sunoco Rookie of the Year Award with a race remaining.
The Bill McAnally Racing driver becomes the 45th Sunoco Rookie of the Year winner in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West and joins his father David Gilliland, who won the award in 2004, on the prestigious list of winners. With the finale at California’s All American Speedway quickly approaching, Gilliland will look to join Lance Hooper (1996) and Scott Lynch (2003) on the list of drivers to win both the championship and rookie honors in the same year in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West.
“We didn’t have too high of expectations at the start of the year,” Gilliland said. “My team and I just wanted to win one to three races. To have the season I’ve had so far is mind-blowing and to have locked the Sunoco Rookie of the Year title up with one race left in the season is crazy.”
The 2016 season has seen 29 talented rookie drivers vying for top honors in the K&N Pro West, including Gilliland’s Bill McAnally Racing teammates Julia Landauer and Riley Herbst. Heading into the season finale at All American Speedway in Roseville, California, on Oct. 15, Gilliland leads Landauer 119-100, while Herbst is third with 95 points. The highest finishing rookie in a race receives 10 points, second receives nine, third gets eight and so on.
“There was a lot of great rookie talent in the series this year,” Gilliland said. “It was fun racing against such strong competitors this year, especially my BMR teammates.”
Gilliland carried over his momentum from winning his series debut at the 2015 finale at Arizona’s Phoenix International Raceway and then winning in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East opener in February at Florida’s New Smyrna Speedway.
He won the first two West races of the year to equal Dan Gurney’s 50-year record as the only driver to win his first four K&N Pro starts.
The victories didn’t stop there, as the NASCAR Next driver has picked up six wins, 11 top fives and 12 top 10s in 13 starts.
While excited and honored to win the 2016 Sunoco Rookie of the Year trophy, Gilliland still has a lot of work ahead.
“We still have one more race,” the current championship points leader said. “Winning this title gives me some more confidence headed into the finale. But we can still lose the championship, so I have to keep my head down and keep doing what we’ve been doing all year.”
Gilliland will be formally recognized as the 2016 Sunoco Rookie of the Year at the NASCAR Touring Series Awards on Saturday, Dec. 10 at the Charlotte (North Carolina) Convention Center at the NASCAR Hall of Fame.

Havasu 95 Speedway To Launch Season Number 11 This Saturday
By Dave Grayson
Racing fans in Lake Havasu City-Arizona are already feeling that rush of adrenaline this week. That's because the Havasu 95 Speedway will be officially launching their 2016-2017 winter racing season this Saturday night. By the looks of their recently released schedule, it's going to be another great season of racing on this very challenging quarter mile paved oval.
Saturday night's season opener will be featuring hot on track action from the speedway's Get It In Gear Street Stocks, the Havasu Wiring Outlaw Karts, the Office Cocktail Lounge Bandoleros and the Sam Nichols Electric Factory Stocks. This action packed evening is being presented by race sponsors Interstate Batteries and Get It In Gear Transmissions.
Bobby Keirns is the defending champion in the Get It In Gear Street Stock division following a very intense title run with driver Gavin Bucy. Last season Bucy won the first six races in a row. However, Keirns kept his competitor in sight by finishing second in those six events. Then Kerins got red hot and won the next five races, including twin main events during the season finale, and won the championship by six points. Also noteworthy here are drivers Garrett Reinoso, Ted Lamacki and William Guevara whose consistent finishes allowed them to complete the top five in the final standings.
The Havasu Wiring Outlaw Karts will also be kicking off a brand new season this Saturday night. This division races on a dirt infield course while creating a lot dirt slinging excitement. Adam Hommerding is the defending series' champion based on seven feature wins and a car load of top five finishes. Consistent finishes from Brody Wake, Korbin Mitchell and Taylor Whitefield allowed the trio of drivers to complete the top five in the final standings.
The youngsters in the Office Cocktail Lounge Bandoleros will also be starting another season at Havasu 95 Saturday night. At the conclusion of the previous winter racing season it was a case of Allison Gay all the way. She started nine races and won nine races to easily claim the division title with a 22 point advantage over runner up Brock Rogers whose consistency resulted in nine top fives including eight runner up finishes. Drivers Madison Gay, Alexis Beebe and Ethan Deguevara competed the top five in the final standings. Often referred to as the future stars of tomorrow, these youngsters in their small, but very swift Bandolero cars, puts on a terrific show for the fans.
It just wouldn't seem like Saturday night racing at the Havasu 95 without the presence of the Sam Nichols Electric Factory Stocks. Their go all out, racing is rubbing, show has the fans leaving their seats the moment the green flag is waved to start the race. Based on 11 starts and seven feature wins, Brent Delay was the major hot shoe last season and won the division title with a 14 point margin over speedway veteran Jose Guevara, a two time main event winner. Feature winner Jeff Prieur, Chris Blackwell and Matt Caley completed to top five.
Put all of these racing divisions together, along with some very talented drivers, and you have the makings of a very strong season opener at the Havasu 95 Speedway this Saturday night. The spectator gates will open at 5pm followed by racing at 7pm. General admission tickets, age 17 plus, are $12.50. Tickets for seniors, military personnel with valid ID, and the handicapped are $10.50. Kid's tickets, age six to 16, are $6.50. The speedway also offers a budget friendly family package, value priced at $25.50, which admits two adults and two kids age six to 16. Also for $25.50 fans can enjoy the special amenities of the speedway's VIP section featuring the best seats in the house.

Pacific Challenge Series 2016 Championship Concludes At Ukiah
Jeremy Doss will win his second PCS championship on Saturday (Photo Courtesy Patriot Media) |
SACRAMENTO, CALIFORNIA (September 27, 2016) - Upperlake, CA's Jeremy Doss will add to his 2012 Pacific Challenge Series presented by PenneyLawyers.com championship when he takes the green flag on Saturday night at Ukiah Speedway. Doss will win his second career series championship as the 2016 season concludes with its 12th and final points race of the year. Doss raced neck-and-neck with 2014 champion Mike Beeler of Modesto throughout the season before pulling away late in the season.
Doss' JD Motorsports team will be raising money for Relay for Life of Ukiah by selling stickers, t-shirts, and hosting a 50/50 raffle in the grandstands.
A third place finish on Saturday at All American Speedway in Roseville, CA gave Doss his eighth top-three effort of the season. Beeler and Doss split the two previous races at the quarter-mile Ukiah Speedway this year. Doss won the rain-delayed Mother's Day main event while Beeler's win on July 16th was his second consecutive PCS win to go with winning the Firecracker 100 at Stockton 99 Speedway.
"Its a great series and they're all hitters. It makes it really tough. I love going to Ukiah and I have great fans so I'm really looking forward to it," Doss said.
Three straight finishes outside of the top-five cost Beeler a strong shot at the championship, but he should mathematically fight off Tracy's Jeff Bischofberger for second in the standings. Beeler's three seasons in the PCS have all been in the top-two in the points as one of the toughest competitors in the series.
Bischofberger has engaged with Manteca's JR Courage in the battle for third in the points as well, but a second place effort on Saturday at Roseville should allow Bischofberger to hang on. Courage, however, had his best career PCS performance at Ukiah in July when he led laps before finishing second to Beeler.
Granite Bay's Cole Moore, the 2015 Rookie of the Year, currently rounds out the top-five in the points but is not expected at Ukiah. Moore will likely surrender that position to top 2016 rookie Matt Wendt. Wendt has had the speed for a strong finish at Ukiah in both races this season but not the luck needed to complete the run. His bullring background racing Super Stocks at Stockton has served him well at Ukiah which is PCS' smallest track.
2015 champion John Moore is also not expected at Ukiah which gives Tracy Bolin of Valley Springs a shot at seventh in the points. Bolin set the track record to open the year at Madera Speedway and finished third at Madera in August as well. He won the Shasta race in June in a great duel with Jeremy Doss. Beyond those three runs, Bolin has had nothing but bad luck this year including being the victim in a big crash at the July Ukiah race.
Hayward's Danny Malfatti will try to overtake Elk Grove's Mike Hite for ninth in the points as well, while Loomis' Chris Scribner has a nice opportunity to crack the top-ten in the standings at Ukiah. Malfatti used Ukiah in July for his best finish of the season in sixth while Scribner has finishes of sixth and third at the quarter-mile this season.
The crowning of the Pacific Challenge Series champion on Saturday night will not close the book entirely on the 2016 PCS, as the upcoming non-points October Classic 100 looms on October 15th at All American Speedway in Roseville. Pre-entry information is available at www.PacificChallengeSeries.com Pre-entries received by October 3rd are eligible for contingency prizes valued in the thousands of dollars.
For more information on Ukiah Speedway located on the Redwood Empire Fairgrounds, visit www.LakeportSpeedway.com
Friday action includes a practice session beginning at 5 p.m. The pit gates will open at 3 p.m. for practice with pricing $30 per person (no car fees). On Saturday pit gates open at 10 a.m. and grandstands open at 3:00 p.m. Qualifying will be at 5 p.m. with racing to follow. Legends, Bombers, Bandoleros, and Jammers will join the PCS at Ukiah.
Ticket prices are priced $12 for Adults, $9 for Seniors and Students, $6 for Children 6-11, and Children 5 and under free! Ukiah Speedway also offers a family pack for $30.

Winged Sprints & Western Sportsman Make Up Big Saturday At Madera
Cody Gerhardt won the Harvest Classic for the Madera Western Winged Sprint Cars and leads the field into Saturday's $3000 to win feature (Photo Courtesy Outback Andy Foster) |
MADERA, CALIFORNIA (September 27, 2016) – An increasingly strong field is assembling for Saturday's iPull-u-Pull CHALLENGE at LoanMart Madera Speedway, with a $3000 to win Winged Sprint Car race and the inaugural West Coast Sportsman 75 on the big card. The fastest one-third mile in the West will also host racing for BCRA Midgets, CSS 360 Super Modifieds, HPD Midgets, Legends of Kearney Bowl, MSTs, and Toyota Sedans.
The iPull-U-Pull Challenge for the Winged Sprints serves as the season finale for the Madera Western Winged Super Sprints to be televised on MAVTV. Fresno's Cody Gerhardt has won the last two features, taking his namesake Gerhardt Classic on July 9th then storming to victory in the 45th Harvest Classic on September 17th. Gerhardt's closest competition in the September race came from his rookie teammate Dylan Nobile and fellow rookie Justin Kawahata. Incoming points leader Tom Baker of Carmichael, CA slipped to second in the standings and will look for a rebound on Saturday.
A bevy of Sprint Car stars from all over the Western United States is expected to challenge for the big $3000 to win purse. Idaho's "First Lady of Sprint Car racing" Sierra Jackson leads the Northwest and Rocky Mountain group of racers coming to battle. Chowchilla's Eric "Hot Rod" Humphries has two wins at Madera and more than half a dozen top-five finishes this year. Arguably the strongest car on the West Coast is Glenn Hutchison's #8 with five top-three finishes. BCRA Midget Gerhardt Classic winner Chad Nichols is expected to drive that machine. Don Penix has entered Kyle Vanderpool to campaign in the bright orange #3g entry as well. Nevada's father and son team of Bob and Al Beck, and ageless veteran Gordon Rogers of Winton, CA are also expected along with Sacramento's Bud Trimble.
The stock car portion of the program will be the inaugural West Coast Sportsman 75 with plenty of teams with West Series experience converging for the new series. 2016 LoanMart Open Late Model points leader and all-time winningest Madera Late Model racer Matt Erickson is among the highlights of the field. Erickson will drive for Canadian based Dick Midgley in a #09 Chevrolet. Anderson's Derek Copeland will drive the #44 for Dave Reed Racing, while Justin Funkhouser is entered for John Krebs Racing. SRL veteran Bobby Hodges of Carson City, NV will be one of the drivers for Mike Naake's team, while owner-drivers such as Scott Ivie, Shannon Fry, Justin Philpott, and Rich Delong have also expressed intentions to compete on Saturday.
The non-points event will be spread across a two segment format, with a 50 lap first segment early in the evening. Teams will then head to the pits to make any adjustments they'd like to make and then return later in the night for a 25 lap finale to round out the 75 lap feature. The same set of tires will be used for the entire 75 lap distance, practice, and qualifying. Teams competing in this inaugural race will receive four free pit passes for their support.
The track's regular Modified Super Toyotas (MSTs) and Toyota Sedans will also compete in their season finales.
This non-points event is shaping up to feature several local Madera drivers in competition as a test race for a possible 2017 season for the cars. Teams that compete in the October 1st opener each receive four free pit passes to ease their transition into the series.
360 Super Modified fans should be treated to a strong field as well with CSS officials confirming an increased car count is expected. The BCRA Midgets have had a thrilling and competitive season made up of many long-time veterans to the sport along with several drivers that race double-duty across Sprints and Midgets. Entry level USAC HPD Midgets have been a battle between the Breidinger sisters and Jesse Love IV while the Legends of Kearney Bowl is one of the best vintage exhibition series on the planet with large fields of vintage Super Modifieds.
Female drivers anchor the top of the Toyota Sedan field with Jilliaun Holden and Lucy Carmona, while Kevin Thompson is closing in on yet another MST track championship.
An open practice kicks off the weekend on Friday before another full day of action on Saturday. Friday practice runs from 5 p.m. - 8 p.m.
On Saturday, pit gates open at 11 with practice from 12:45 p.m. - 2:45 p.m. Qualifying will follow with heats and dashes at 5:00 p.m. Opening ceremonies and the main events begin at 6:00 p.m.
Tickets for this great night of racing are $20 for adults, $17 for seniors and military, $10 for youth ages 6-12, and kids five and under are free! Madera Speedway is located on the Madera Fairgrounds on Cleveland Ave and 99. For more information, visit www.RaceMadera.com

Silliker Becomes Youngest Winner In Jr. Late Model History
LEMOORE, CALIFORNIA (September 26, 2016) – 11 year-old Ben Silliker drove the #24 Jr. Late Model to victory on Saturday night at LoanMart Madera Speedway, becoming the youngest winner in the history of the 51FIFTY Jr. Late Models division that airs on MAVTV. Silliker, the Team Silco Racing development driver from Northern Alberta, Canada, is solidly in the battle for second in the series standings with one race left to go.
Silliker drove into victory lane with his Bryan Clauson "BC Tribute" on the hood in front of an appreciative crowd at the one-third mile asphalt oval, located north of Fresno. The 50 lap feature, spread over a pair of 25 lap segments, was one of the most intense races of the inaugural series. The Jr. Late Models are the world's first division for full-sized stock cars for drivers ages 10-16.
After a full day of testing on Friday night, Silliker went to work on Saturday by leading the first practice session with a 15.372 second lap. He was fourth in the second practice before a slight hiccup in qualifying where he timed in sixth. The nearly 100 degree temperatures cooled by race time and Silliker drew the pole after the redraw of the top-eight qualifiers.
Silliker battled in lockstep with fellow Outlaw Kart racer Kolby Berry, age 15, as part of a closely wound lead pack. Silliker took over the lead on lap 14 and held that top position into the halfway break on lap 25 good for a five point bonus. The halfway break takes place on the frontstretch of the speedway where the teams can make adjustments and add fuel, but must continue on their original set of tires.
With the five minute break concluded the racing action continued with Silliker defending the lead against 12 year-old Kyle Keller from Las Vegas, NV. Silliker, Keller, and second in points Austin Herzog put on a great show for the fans with Silliker leading all the way to the finish for a narrow .361 second win. The top four finishers were separated by less than a second at the finish.
Silliker's win will air on MAVTV and on the Lucas Oil Racing app in October. It was the driver's fourth top-three in seven starts in the televised races and he also won an exhibition race earlier in the year as well. He has accumulated eight victories this season across dirt and asphalt, from Late Models to Outlaw Karts and Micro Sprints.
He ranks in the top-five in the USAC National Restricted Micro Sprints points and made the feature for the Kyle Larson Outlaw Kart Showcase. By all metrics, this has been a career-year for ambitious driver who races more than 70 times each season.
His 2016 campaign continues into October where he will race Micro Sprints throughout the month, with the 51FIFTY Jr. Late Model season finale on October 8th mixed in. That race is tentatively scheduled for live coverage with more details available soon. A $10,000 Open Late Model race augments the October 8th program making it one of the biggest races in California for the year.
October's schedule also includes the 16th running of the Turkey Bowl at Delta, while two day shows at Plaza Park Raceway in Visalia, CA and Dixon Speedway make up the November schedule.
Race fans can follow Ben Silliker's progress from Madera on MAVTV every Thursday night or on the LucasOilRacing.TV app. Many of his major Outlaw Kart and Micro Sprint races are streamed on FastFourMedia.com Check the website for dates and times.

Sullivan pulled ahead at the drop of the initial green flag over Price, Potts and Knight. Potts inched under Price for second on lap 2 with Knight following him into third place. This put Mitchell along side of Sullivan for the restart, and when racing resumed, Mitchell powered into the lead. Both Nick Lyons and Collins got around Price for third and fourth with Philpot joining the front-runners on lap nine. Collins swapped places with Lyons on the 12th round with Philpot following his line.

The running order at the Buckhorn Bar and Grill half-way point was Collins, Mitchell, Philpot, Sullivan, Kris Price, Lyons, Eric Price, Knight, Mike Gorham, Codi Barba, Potts, C.J. Christman, Dave Campbell, Furia, Josh Stewart and Kevin Coburn.
Kris Price passed Sullivan for fourth on lap 31 as Knight was picking off cars on his way back to the front. The following round Philpot retired his car to the pits. Knight joined the top five runners with a pass on Lyons on the 39th circuit. Eric Price's car lost power and stalled on the back stretch to bring out the third yellow flag on lap 49. Contact between Barba and Potts on the restart saw both cars headed for the pits.
The single-file restart saw Collins, Mitchell, Kris Price, Darrin Knight and Darrin Sullivan in a straight line. All in all, it was another exciting and fantastic night at the Acres thanks in part to Maxwell’s Custom Automobiles who sponsored this weekend’s action.
Bethany Rapp paced the California State and Federal Employees Credit Union roadrunner qualifying field with a 20.590 lap. Dominic Vogelsang continued his late season surge in the trophy dash by taking the win. Jennifer Murrell won the first heat race while Vogelsang took the second. The 20-lap feature saw the lead change hands in each of the first three laps as Bob Ratzloff, Patrick Sproul and James Nichols traded the top position.
Nichols dominated the event, even when the field was turned around at halfway to go around the track in the opposite direction. With just five laps remaining, Vogelsang began his assault on the lead. On lap 16, Vogelsang maneuvered past Nichols to take the lead. Vogelsang would go on to lead the rest of the way, taking the victory. Nichols held on to second over Rapp, Troy Taylor and Sproul.
The 2016 roadrunner champion was Tyler Peach. Peach spent much of the night staying out of traffic in hopes of avoiding major catastrophe in order to claim the title. In the end he was able to do it driving Daniel Buell’s car.
The track championship in the Fortuna Wheel and Brake bomber division was already decided before the night started. James Moore had enough of a cushion over second place that he didn’t need to start the season finale. In fact, Moore was unable to compete on the night due to a back injury. Driving his car in his stead was Acres veteran, Ryan Walters.
Walters was fastest in qualifying with a 18.139. Kolby Jackson took the trophy dash win as well as the victory in the heat race. Shane Toole led the opening lap of the 25-lap main event. Jimmy Sorrels led the next three laps before Toole regained the lead. On lap six, Walters moved his way into the lead and never looked back. At the finish it was Walters taking the victory by nearly four seconds over second place, Corey James. Sorrels placed third while Toole and Ryan Ahrens rounded out the top five finishers.
The Humboldt Hydroponics mini stock division title was up in the air with Gary Klinetobe, Jarrett Mayo and Eugene Palmer vying for their first championship in the division. In qualifying, Brett Murrell was fastest with an 18.700 driving his father, Brian Murrell, Sr’s car. Murrell was the trophy dash winner while heat race victors were Nick Ford and Palmer.
The opening two laps of the 25-lap main were led by Palmer. On lap three, Mayo took the lead. Murrell was clearly the fastest car on the track and on lap six, he moved by Mayo for the top spot. Murrell ran away from the pack as the three title contenders of Mayo, Klinetobe and Palmer fought it out for second. At the finish it was Murrell taking the win over Mayo, Klinetobe, Palmer and Sam Brown. Klinetobe was declared the champion, having beat Palmer by only seven points. After the event, Klinetobe announced his retirement from racing at the Acres.
In the Thunder Roadster division, two men were fighting for the track championship in Tommy Payne and Ronnie O’Neil. In qualifying O’Neil set fast time with a 17.142. Aaron Byers took the wins in both the trophy dash and the heat races but had an unfortunate accident at the start of the 30-lap main which also collected Dax Kinsey. O’Neil moved to the race lead on lap six and dominated the feature event while Payne had his hands full racing Donnie Brown. At the finish it was O’Neil taking the win over Payne, Brown, Jett Taylor and Byers. Payne was crowned track champion in the division by only four points over O’Neil. Following the race, both drivers shook hands and congratulated each other on what was a thrilling season of racing in the Thunder Roadster division.
Brad Curtice set fast time in the Legends division with a 18.083. Robert Miller went into the night with a comfortable lead and only needed to start the feature to complete his championship run. He helped his effort with a win in the trophy dash while Curtice took the heat win. Curtice dominated the 25-lap main event as he led from the drop of the green flag to the drop of the checkered. Miller secured his title with a second place effort. M’Kinzy Uselton finished third while Anissa Curtice was fourth.
The night finished off with another captivating boat race with Maxwell’s Custom Automobiles putting up the purse for the event. For the second time in 2016, fans were thrilled as over ten boat racers took to the track in a night of nautical destruction. In the end, the winner was determined by the loudness of the crowd. Acres fans declared Chris Garth the winner with second place being awarded to Tim Roscoe.
2016 at the Acres concludes October 7th, 8th, and 9th with the return of the Fall Spectacular. Late models and modifieds highlight the event while roadrunners, bombers, mini stocks, Legends and Thunder Roadsters will also be in action. Saturday gates open at 4:00 PM while racing begins at 6:00 PM. On Sunday, gates open at 11:00 AM and racing begins at noon. Gilliland Wins Big At Meridian Speedway
MERIDIAN, Idaho – Todd Gilliland capitalized on a mistake made by Ryan Partridge late in the NAPA Auto Parts/Idaho 208 to take home his sixth NASCAR K&N Pro Series West trophy of the year.
Gilliland, 16, a Sherrills Ford, North Carolina, native started the race fifth and picked his way through the field to move into second behind Partridge, who had led a total of 121 laps before being overtaken by the NASCAR Next driver.
Partridge, 28, from Rancho Cucamonga, California, held off a charging Gilliland until late in the race when the Sunoco Rookie of the Year contender slipped past him for the lead with 73 laps remaining. This started the back and forth lead change between the two championship contenders for the duration of the 208-lap event.
With five laps remaining at Meridian (Idaho) Speedway, a multi-car wreck occurred to force the field to a stop on a red flag. When the race resumed ten laps later, it was for a green-white-checkered attempt. Gilliland and Partridge were battling side-by-side, when Partridge made a costly mistake that caused him to spin and Gilliland cruised to his sixth Victory Lane celebration of the year.
The rookie will head into the season finale with a 25-point lead over Partridge (558-533).
Gilliland’s fellow Bill McAnally Racing teammate and NASCAR Next classmate, Julia Landauer, finished second to tie the record for the highest finishing female in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West as well as earn her best career finish.
NASCAR Next alumna Nicole Behar finished third, while Cole Rouse and Gracin Raz rounded out the top five.
Noah Gragson, Stafford Smith, Rich DeLong III, Chris Eggleston and Blaine Perkins completed the top 10.
The NAPA Auto Parts/Idaho 208 will air on NBCSN, Friday, September 30 at 12:30 p.m. ET/10:30 a.m. MT.
The NASCAR K&N Pro Series West will be back in action on Saturday, October 15 for the season finale at California’s All American Speedway.

Jason Romero Completes Sweep Of PCS Races At Roseville
ROSEVILLE, CALIFORNIA (September 24, 2016) - 2009 All American Speedway champion Jason Romero continued his pure dominance at the speedway, taking his third consecutive Pacific Challenge Series presented by PenneyLawyers.com victory at the track in 2016. Romero again fought hard with points leader Jeremy Doss, who inched closer to his second series championship as well. The race had six lead changes and four different leaders in the 100 lap contest.
2015 PCS champion John Moore of Granite Bay won the American Racer Tire Dash for a set of American Racer Tires and for the pole position alongside his son, 2015 Rookie of the Year Cole Moore. After an exciting side-by-side battle, John Moore took off with the lead position by a couple of car lengths.
Former Roseville Late Model champions Romero and three-time champ Matt Scott occupied row two and both drivers went after Cole Moore. Scott took over second on lap 14 with Romero making a nice inside move on lap 17 in turn three to take third.
John Moore, Scott, and Romero ran nose-to-tail through lapped traffic while teammates Doss and Jeff Bischofberger jostled past 2014 champion Mike Beeler of Modesto. The strong battles gave Doss fifth and Bischofberger sixth, critical moves in the championship hunt. Things intensified for the lead position and Scott led lap 29. Contact between the top-three caused a left rear flat tire for John Moore sending him spinning on that same lap.
Scott led just the 29th lap as Romero swooped past on the outside to take the lead on the restart. Beeler used the restart to come back at Bischofberger as well in a side-by-side battle. Bischofberger drove away to challenge Cole Moore and take over fourth on lap 51. The caution flew on that lap for Danny Malfatti spinning in turn four and Scott was forced to surrender second position with a fluid leak that ended his night.
Romero charged away from Doss on the ensuing restart, before a caution for Tracy Bolin sliding up the hill in turn one and nearly tagging the wall. He was able to pit and make repairs to return to the race. Cole Moore and Romero suffered damage in the melee but continued. Doss used the restart to take the lead from Romero on the outside and he held the top position for three laps as the two slid around the track door handle to door handle. Romero took the lead back on lap 59.
Beeler stalled on lap 87 for a caution period but he was able to return after a pit stop. Lapped traffic was still mixed in with the leaders, causing contact that damaged the front suspension on John Moore's car as he came to a stop for a lap 90 caution. With ten laps to go, lapped cars were pulled out giving Doss another opportunity to race Romero. He led just the 91st lap and Romero took the lead back.
The pair remained locked side-by-side to the approval of the crowd before the battle was nullified when Chris Scribner came back on the track after a stop in the pits. Romero snuck through and never relinquished the lead, while Bischofberger used the incident to overtake his teammate Doss for second as well at the finish.
Stockton Labor Day Weekend winner Travis Milburn of Eagle, ID had a steady race for fourth with Cole Moore rounding out the top-five. Milburn's drive from tenth starting position to fourth earned him the Penney Racing Supply Hard Charger award.
