ESCALON, CALIFORNIA (April 25, 2019) – Bob Grossi Construction will partner with Nascimento Motorsports to field NASCAR K&N Pro Series, West champion Eric Holmes of Escalon, CA in three Madera Speedway Pro Late Model races, in a program announced today. Holmes will compete in the MAVTV-televised Nut Up Pro Late Model Series in 80 lap events on April 27th and May 25th along with the 150 lap, $10,000 to win Short Track Shootout on October 5th.

Holmes has won the Short Track Shootout three times for Nascimento Motorsports, earning a reputation as Mr. October. He will be teamed up with Eric Nascimento, Jr., who is running for Rookie of the Year in the SPEARS SRL Southwest Tour while also racing regularly in the Pro Late Models. Younger brother Ethan Nascimento races in the Bandolero division as well.

The Escalon area-backed program includes additional support from Nut Up Industries, Morrill Industries, Grossi Fabrication, Grossi Electrical, Stump Industries, and Select Harvest of Turlock. Bob Grossi Construction erects metal buildings across central California since 1992.

Madera’s Nut Up Pro Late Model Series is a nine race program that averages nearly 30 entries per event. Nick Grossi drove for the team in 2018 towards second place in the rookie standings with a best qualifying effort of third and a best finish of seventh last July.

Saturday’s race will be available on MAVTV in late July. Madera Racing on MAVTV airs year round every Thursday at 5pm and 8pm Pacific Time. Nascimento Motorsports is owned by Eric Nascimento and is based in Manteca.

Wenatchee, Wash. (April 23, 2019) – Coming off a stellar 2018 season that found Trenton Moriarty as the primary threat to Britney Zamora’s eventual championship, the second-generation driver is poised to move to the top of the mountain this season.

One of the rising stars in the region, Moriarty has his sights set on capturing the Northwest Super Late Model Series title and gets those efforts underway this weekend at the Leonard Evans 150 in East Wenatchee, WA.

Wenatchee Valley Super Oval is a demanding race track, according to Moriarty. To be successful in the chase for the race win and series championship, being strong on the ultra-fast .250-mile oval is key, he added.

“One of the biggest challenges (at WVSO) is avoiding the front stretch wall. You also have to be in a position to miss the wrecks and most important is being able to get your car to work on the outside line. Our plans for success (in the race) will be running upfront, leading some laps and hopefully the cards fall into place for us to win the race.”

For Moriarty and his team, in their mind no track is more challenging than another, if solid preparation in the shop and practice is done, he noted.

“I don’t see any track being challenging. The challenge is getting your car set up close enough that you are not throwing the kitchen sink at it each weekend.”

The Monroe, WA native will see that mindset tested as the series schedule offers plenty of chances to battle for the championship.

“I am looking forward to Yakima. I’ve always dreamed of being part of the Apple Cup and Fall Classic since I started racing but never had that opportunity until this season. Thankful for Doug Bettarel keeping Yakima Speedway alive for another season.”

Family will be a big factor in Moriarty’s run to the championship, he said.

“My Dad (famed Evergreen Speedway driver, Tom Moriarty) has been the biggest mentor for me. He’s given me the opportunities to drive the best equipment in the Northwest from a Mini-Stock to a Super Late Model. I also have to thank my finance Katie and daughter Mackenlee for being my number one fans. We’re excited to chase this Northwest Super Late Model Series championship in 2019.”

MADERA, CALIFORNIA (April 23, 2019) – The sizzling start to the 2019 MAVTV-televised Nut Up Pro Late Model Series and 51FIFTY Energy Drink Jr. Late Model Series continues on Saturday night from Madera Speedway, with both divisions hosting their third races of the season. Allied Storage and Containers will present a busy night of racing.

The Pro and Jr. combined season average has attracted 50 Late Model stock cars to the one-third mile asphalt oval each night. Mini Cups vs. Bandoleros, Hobby Stocks, and Toyota Sedans will also be competing this weekend.

The Pro Late Model division has been led by a pair of Jr. Late Model graduates to start the year. 15 year-old Dylan Zampa, a three-time winner of the Jr. Series hailing out of Napa, CA, won the season opener and leads the championship. Six-time Jr. winner Austin Herzog, age 16 from Clovis, CA, won the second round of the series for his first Madera Pro Late Model win. Both drivers were busy throughout April. Zampa tested for Lee Faulk Racing Development in a Late Model Stock Car at Hickory Motor Speedway in North Carolina. Herzog added a victory in the non-televised Madera Late Models division last weekend as well.

2018 series champion Matt Erickson finds himself in unfamiliar territory from third in the standings on the heels of a runner-up finish to Herzog in the last event. 2018 Madera Late Model champion Jason Aguirre ranks fourth ahead of sophomore driver Christian Roche. 80 laps of competition are on tap for the Pro LM with $2,000 going to the race winner.

Las Vegas’ Tanner Reif, 13, enjoys a narrow three-point advantage ahead of Madera’s own Joey Iest in the 51FIFTY Jr. Late Model competition. Reif grabbed opening night in March ahead of Iest before Iest outdueled Reif in a thrilling second round of the series. Remarkably, Reif has six consecutive fast-times in the division going back to July of 2018.

Bakersfield’s Seth Wise has led a large rookie class with a pair of third place finishes to rank third in the standings. Jay Juleson and Kabe McClenny round out the championship top-five. 22 different drivers from across the western United States have competed thus far in 2019 for the series for drivers ages 10-16. Their feature on Saturday will be 70 laps in distance.

The Mini Cups vs. Bandoleros is a race within a race and the Bandolero portion of their opener was won by Ethan Nascimento. The victory was Ethan’s first win in the series and gives him the points lead ahead of his teammate, the 2018 champion Riley Massey. Drivers from both north and south of Madera are challenging for the Bandolero championship this year. Atwater’s Aiden Phillips topped the Mini Cup field on his birthday as well. Madera’s youngest drivers will race for 20 laps on Saturday.

Madera’s Hobby Stock drivers are fresh off a great race with the new North State Hobby Stock Series on April 13th where Howard Holden scored a lucrative $750 victory. The race did not pay track points, however, with the track championship still led by Steve Schermerhorn. Schermerhorn will try to go 3-0 for the year on Saturday. In Toyota Sedans, Jason Lawton has won all four main events this year.

Action gets started on Friday evening with practice from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. Saturday’s program begins with pit gates opening at 12:30 p.m. Practices run from 2:15 – 3:45 p.m. with qualifying and heat races to follow. The first set of main events starts at 5:00 p.m. including the Mini Cup feature and the Late Model B Main. Opening ceremonies are at 6:00 p.m.

Eureka, CA (April 22, 2019) – The long off-season of racing is set to be over this Saturday as the opening event at Redwood Acres Raceway. All six divisions are returning to RAR in what will likely to be a very interesting season. Mid-City Motor World will be presenting the debut event of the 2019 season.

The Anderson Logging Bandoleros are going to be returning for the division’s second season at the Acres. The division is aimed at getting youngsters a chance to learn how to race and eventually advance to the faster cars. It’s highly likely that the competition will improve from last year’s rookie season.

2019 is going to see an interesting twist for the mini stock and roadrunner divisions. Both divisions, sponsored by Compass Community Credit Union, will be competing on the track at the same time unless car count for the roadrunners necessitates a separate race. A multi-class event has never taken place in the history of Redwood Acres Raceway since the track was paved in 1988. With both classes of cars on the track at the simultaneously, it is certain that the combination events will produce races all year long.

Things will also be interesting for the Four-Star Realty bomber division this year. The brand new Up-State Bomber Series will be visiting RAR twice in 2019 on May 11 and July 20. It is likely that out-of-town racers will join the locals to prepare their cars for both events.

The North Coast Lighting And Electric Legends saw the division grow at the end of the 2018 season. If that’s any sign for 2019, the Legends could potentially be the most competitive division at Redwood Acres Raceway.

The ever-popular Mid-City Motor World late models will be in action Saturday night for the first of seven races for the year. Redwood Acres Raceway’s premiere division always delivers its own brand of excitement. It should be no different this upcoming Saturday night.

Because the original scheduled open practice was rained out, there will be one this Friday. Practice will be held from 2:00PM to 7:00PM. Pit gates will open at 1:30PM. On Saturday, grandstands open at 4:00PM with racing beginning at 5:00PM. General admission tickets are $12, $8 for seniors and military, $6 for children 6-12 with 5 and younger children have free admission.

STOCKTON, CALIFORNIA (April 22, 2019) – Early registration for the 2018 top-ten drivers from each division for the Hoosier Tire California Speedweek has attracted a strong roster for the fifth running of the Micro Sprint classic. Drivers are preparing to compete June 25-29 in Super 600, Non Wing, and Restricted Micro Sprints. Nearly $60,000 in cash and prizes will be on the line at Dixon Speedway, Delta Speedway, Keller Auto Raceway at Plaza Park, and Lemoore Raceway.

Regular entry begins on April 23rd for drivers looking for a place in the 130 car field. Fields are capped at 50 Super 600, 40 Non Wing, and 40 Restricted. All 12 features include $1000 to win purses and the coveted carved wooden bear trophies.

A bevy of talented drivers have already punched tickets for the Super 600 division with 2018 Speedweek champion Jake Hagopian of Fresno and 2018 Restricted Speedweek champion Dylan Bloomfield of Discovery Bay among them. 2019 Tulsa Shootout winner and 2018 King of California Corey Day has advanced to Super as has the 2018 Delta Speedway champion and King of California runner-up Caeden Steele.

Washington’s Chance Crum looks to improve on his tenth place performance in the 2018 points. Bakersfield’s Brody Fuson is preparing to run both Super 600 and Non Wing. 2019 Super 600 feature winners across California have entered including Raio Salmon and Ben Worth. Non Wing also features entries from 2018 champion Tj Smith and multi-time Delta track champion Brandon Carey. Washington’s Lane Taylor is among those already signed in for Restricted.

Stockton, CA......This Saturday night, April 27, the North State Modified Series, presented by Protect the Harvest, returns to Stockton 99 Speedway after a four-year absence from one of the oldest ¼ mile paved tracks in the state of California. Stockton 99 ran its first race in 1947, and is still operating today under the watchful eye of Tony Noceti of the Noceti Group Inc.

August, 2015 was the last time NSMS ran at the privately-owned facility, and it was Cody Braund of Anderson who held off the challenges of many-time Stockton 99 champ Wes Miller of Turlock to capture his first NSMS win. The series will see a new face in the winner's circle this weekend as Braund has turned over his last ride to his brother Keith Bloom.

Points leader, and winner of the season opener at Madera, Randy Houston of Medford, Oregon would love to repeat his winner ways, but will be up against second in points Darrin Sullivan of Kelseyville, veteran driver Jason Philpot of Sacramento (third in points), Santa Rosa's Cameron Austin and Brian Collins of Camino.

Three-time NSMS champion Darrin Knight of Kelseyville has been working on his car and expects to be up front at the end. And Stockton regular Robbie Knittel plans on showing the other competitors the quickest way around the track.

The North State Modifieds will join the Gun Slingers Wing Sprint Car Series, the Legends of Kearney Bowl, the BCRA Midgets, Focus Midgets & Vintage Midgets for an all open-wheel show.

STOCKTON, CALIFORNIA (April 21, 2019) – Despite 114 competitors on hand, the crème continued to rise to the top at Delta Speedway presented by Financial Center Credit Union with former track champions Nikko Panella and Dan Mognaga grabbing $500 victories. Logan Trevino and Jett Barnes also won in a busy second points race of 2019 on the 1/7th mile dirt oval.

Corey Day jumped out to the early lead in the Super 600 feature with Nikko Panella in pursuit. The front wing lifted up on Jake Hagopian’s car from fourth on lap 10. Hagopian then pitted at the halfway point to end his night early. As the leaders approached lapped traffic, Day suddenly lost his right rear tire to necessitate a caution on lap 15.

Panella assumed the top spot with Day’s evening over. The 2018 Super 600 champion enjoyed a comfortable lead over Caden Sarale before a caution lap 21 for Brad Hannum bouncing off of Dylan Bloomfield in turn one. Dillon Horsley flipped in turn one in an incident involving Colton Huelsmann for a lap 22 red flag. As the field stopped on the front stretch, Ashlyn Rodriguez flipped on her side as well.

2014 track champion Travis Labat went upstairs from the third position. He nearly passed Sarale for second but was impeded briefly. The battling allowed Panella to earn a three car length cushion. Labat finally cleared Sarale for second but was too far behind to go for the top spot. Panella led Labat, Sarale, season opening winner Raio Salmon, and Cody Christensen as the top-five finishers in the $500 to win event.

A wild scrum in turn four stopped the action on the opening lap of the 22 car Non Wing feature. Jonathan Henry went upside down and collected at least four cars including hard contact for Nick Robfogel.

After the red flag, 19 cars returned to competition with Robbie Lewis leading the way on fifth starting Dan Mognaga. Dave Mosier qualified in the top-five and ran within the top-five early in the feature.

A caution flew on lap eight for a multi-car crash in turn two that eliminated Lewis’ advantage on the field. The top-two in the 2018 points – Tj Smith and Caden Sarale – both passed Mosier on the restart. 2010 and 2011 Non Wing champion Mognaga hounded the rear bumper of Lewis as the field approached traffic on lap 18. Meanwhile, Smith and Brent Brooks battled tooth and nail for third with Smith trying a variety of maneuvers.

Angelina Dempsey lost her right front tire under green on lap 22 but the race continued without incident as she made it into the infield safely. Mognaga snookered Lewis for the lead nearly simultaneously. Both Smith and Sarale got past Brooks for third and fourth. The duo needed a caution to close the gap on the leaders. The caution never came. Mognaga scored the $500 win ahead of Lewis, Smith, Sarale, and tenth starting Chad Laughton.

Logan Trevino led all 25 laps for his second consecutive $300 Restricted feature over a strong field of 30 competitors. Jade Avedisian moved past Devon Courtnier for second and tried to chase down Trevino in traffic lap nine. Trevino was nearly pinched into the wall by former Jr. Sprint champion Isabel Barnes. Trevino then made contact with Logan Penman into turn one that sent him spinning for a caution on lap ten.

Trevino maintained the lead while heat race winners Blaine Baxter and Izaak Sharp battled for fifth. Austin Wood flipped hard off the turn four fence to force a red flag on lap 16. The young driver was uninjured. Gauge Garcia used the restart to throw a nice slidejob on Devon Courtnier. Courtnier crossed him over in a side-by-side battle. Jeffrey Pahule, Jr. advanced from 17th to sixth before a caution on lap 22 for James Andrichuk spinning in turn four.
The final three laps saw a great battle between Courtnier and Garcia for third. Logan Trevino grabbed his the checkered flag ahead of Avedisian and Courtnier for all Driven Chassis top-three. Garcia and Baxter rounded out the top-five.

A great field of 17 Jr. Sprints took the green flag for their 20 lap feature. The race was halted on the first lap when Cyrnic Vo spun in turn four and collected Colton Key.

On the restart, Jett Barnes swept around the outside of pole sitter Andy Hintz to take the lead. Hintz drifted back to fifth over the next two laps. Opening night winner Lucas Mauldin chased Barnes through traffic before making contact with Mason Smith. Smith spun to force a caution on lap eight.

Racing continued with Barnes up front while Kyle Fernandez battled with Mauldin for second. Colton Key had advanced from 17th to sixth by that point as well.

The yellow flew again on lap 15 when Makayla Tatoole stopped in turn four. The caution was opportune for Mason Smith who had pitted for repairs and returned only one lap down in seventh. Barnes held off Mauldin and Fernandez over the final five laps to take the win with TK O’Brien and Key rounding out the top-five.
