North State Modifieds And UpState Bombers Highlight Saturday Night Races At The Acres

#7c Cameron Austin currently leads the North State Modified Series point standings

Eureka, CA (May 10, 2019) – Race two of the 2019 season at Redwood Acres Raceway is set for this Saturday May 11. All of the familiar local classes will be in action for the Mother’s Day weekend event presented by O’Reilly Auto Parts with the exception of the late models. In their stead will be the debut of the UpState Bomber Series which will be holding its first race ever on Saturday. In addition, the North State Modified Series will be making the first of three visits to RAR in 2019.

The UpState Bomber Series was conceived between officials at Redwood Acres Raceway, Shasta Speedway and Ukiah Speedway. All three tracks have had their own local bomber divisions but the rules between each track’s division have had dissimilarities. Over the off-season, the three tracks were able to line up a more united set of rules which helped initiate the touring series.

Saturday’s race will be the first race ever for the UpState Bombers and the first of a seven-race schedule between the three speedways. RAR has two dates scheduled for the series, the other being on July 20th. It is the first time that there has been a touring bomber series in Northern California and the inaugural race is likely to draw the very best bomber drivers in the region.

The North State Modified Series began in 2014 and has become Northern California’s senior touring series with the unfortunate demise of other late model sanctions. The NSMS has established a reputation of having some of the best racing and some of the best racers in the western region. The modifieds made it to the Acres three times in 2018 with Jason Philpot and Kris Price winning the first two races. Race three from last season featured a memorable duel between Price and Darrin Knight with contact occurring on the last lap. Darrin Sullivan was able to sneak through the carnage for the win. In the two races thus far in 2019, Randy Houston was victorious at Madera Speedway while Knight won the most recent race at Stockton 99 Speedway.

There is an open practice Friday afternoon between 4-8 PM. Saturday grandstands open at 4PM with racing beginning at 5PM. For more information on this weekend’s races at Redwood Acres Raceway, visit the track’s website www.RacinTheAcres.com or Facebook #/RedwoodAcresRaceway2019/ or follow on Twitter @RacingTheAcres.

Walker Excited To Be Racing Again

Via NWSLMS

Wenatchee, Wash. (May 8, 2019)–Scott Walker, returned to racing on April 27 in the Northwest Super Late Model Series Leonard Evans 150. Despite an early exit due to an engine failure, the driver of the No. 100 Ford Mustang was simply happy to be part of that evening’s activities.

Working through a lengthy layoff from competition, Walker wondered if getting behind the wheel again would ever happen. Working on the family farm and his concentrating on his health, the popular Prosser, Wash. native focused on needs unrelated to the sport he loved all while maintaining a continued interest in auto racing.

Walker is quick to point out that he tried other routes to peak his interest in the need for speed. The drive to be successful on the race track also fueled a desire to return to the series.

“I'd have to say that I missed the competition and the challenge of making a car faster than everyone else. There's so much time and money that goes into being fast that it becomes very rewarding when you’re able to put it all together and pull out the win. I've tried over the years to substitute the passion I have for racing whether it be riding Harley's, playing golf or other things but none of those would replace the adrenaline rush of being behind the wheel of a race car.”

The rush has been fulfilled in a union with 2015 Idaho 200 champion, JC Wofford. With both men balancing family and work commitments, a partnership was formed that benefits their competitive juices.

“I was talking with JC about how I missed racing and that I was ready to get back behind the wheel, although I thought it would be behind the wheel of a Northwest Ford Focus Midget,” Walker said. “Over the last couple of years, I’ve really come to admire sprint car racing on the dirt as the thrill of that seems to be unlike anything I have ever experienced before. I figured the Midget series would be a good place to learn how to race on the dirt.

“About a week after having this conversation with JC he called me up and offered me partial ownership in his team. I thought about it and decided I couldn't pass the deal up, as I've never had the opportunity to drive a racecar of that caliber. Neither one of us are points racers at this stage of our lives so splitting the seat time seemed like a good way to go.”

While the Leonard Evans 150 was short-lived for Walker and his team, running well in the Apple Cup 125, a race held at his home track, is his goal for this weekend.

“It would mean a lot to be able to compete for an Apple Cup win, especially after blowing up an engine in Wenatchee two weeks ago. Yakima Speedway is also considered a home track for myself, JC, and BJ Tidrick (crew chief) so when we can get a win at Yakima it always means a little more than winning else where. I was fortunate enough to have a decent amount of success back in the day, but it would feel more complete if I was able to add an Apple Cup or Fall Classic win to list of accomplishments.”

Getting his Ford to handle the tricky half-mile will be key, Walker added.

“I'd say the biggest key to success at Yakima is just about like any other track, rotate the center well and have good forward drive low off the corners.”

Yakima Speedway’s 52nd Annual Apple Cup 125 is scheduled for Saturday, May 11. With the event having been postponed from early April due to inclement weather, the weekend’s format has now been condensed to a one-day show.

The race marks the second points event on the 2019 season for NWSLMS teams and drivers. Ticket and other information can be found at yakimaspeedway.us

Dothage, Proctor Among Humboldt Outlaw Karts Opening Day Winners

250cc winner, Dryver Dothage

Eureka, CA (May 7, 2019) – Champagne Attorney Service presented the opening event Saturday afternoon for the Humboldt Outlaw Karts. As has been the case since the karts moved to the 1/8-mile dirt bullring, the on-track action was both intense and entertaining.

The newest division for the HOK is the stock lawn mowers. An exhibition race took place to give fans an idea of what to expect as the class develops in the coming season.

The day belonged to Aaliyah Mitchell in the Champagne Attorney Service beginner box stocks. She dominated both the heat race and feature events, taking the main event win by three laps. While the rest of her competition was comprised of first-time rookie drivers, Mitchell’s victory was no less impressive. Following Mitchell in the finish of the main event were Adam Myer, Colin Wolfe and Raylan Ross.

It was a fantastic field for the Williamson Financial Services box stock class with 13 drivers participating. Grant Williamson was the winner of the first heat race while Grant Proctor won the second. Initially the box stock main event was going to feature the full field of karts but race officials decided to run a B main event would provide a safer and better overall racing environment.

The B feature saw fantastic racing between Corbin Green and Austin Bartholomew. Coming to the checkered flag, Green was able to narrowly beat Bartholomew for the win. Both drivers advanced to the feature race. The story of the main event was the battle for the race lead and the victory between Proctor and Dylan Combest. Both drivers were evenly matched in terms of green flag speed which meant the battle for position on the restarts proved to be a major influence in determining positions.

Proctor led the early stages before a mid-race caution bunched the field with Combest getting the jump and the lead. It appeared as though Combest was going to take the victory but another caution forced another restart. Proctor was able to get the best of Combest to retake the lead. The rest of the race went caution-free with Proctor holding off Combest for the win. Bartholomew placed third with Janice Walters fourth and Chayce Smith fifth.

Amanda Harpe narrowly beat out Nick Ford in the heat race for the Fortuna Wheel & Brake fart karts. The main event saw Ford take the lead early and dominate the rest of the way. At the finish it was Ford beating Landon Green and Jeffrey Smith.

In heat race action for the Miclette Family Motorsports pure stocks, it was Leonard Ward taking the win. The feature race proved to be no different as Ward dominated and crossed the finish line with a 4.5 second advantage over second place Chris Lawrence. Pete Miclette, Jordan Miclette and Michael Lawrence rounded out the top five finishers.

Young Dryver Dothage has moved from driving a box stock outlaw to a Wes Green Landscaping 250cc kart. He looked very comfortable behind the wheel, winning the heat race. The caution flew several times in the feature but the slow downs did little to deter Dothage as he was able to control the race and take the victory. Maleesa Miles and MKinzy Uselton placed second and third and both showed great improvement behind the wheel since the end of the 2018 season. Two more female talents rounded out the top five in Sonya Osborne and Lily Williamson.

The Nor Cal Automotive 500cc heat race and main event wins went to Tony Miles. Dax Williamson placed second in both races.

Racing action for the Humboldt Outlaw Karts will return on Saturday May 18. For more information visit www.HumboldtOutlawKarts.com or on Facebook #/HumboldtOutlawKarts.

Englehardt And Lyons Split Wild NASCAR Modified Twins In Roseville

Corey Englehardt grabbed one of two Modified wins (Don Thompson Photos)

Via All American Speedway Media

ROSEVILLE, Calif. (May 4, 2019) – The Riebe’s Auto Parts Trailer Bash was not the only racing to feature intensity and thrills on Saturday in Roseville, with Corey Englehardt and Nick Lyons each taking hard earned wins in the NASCAR Modified Twin 35 races at All American Speedway. A crowd of over 2,000 fans were on hand for the second night of action for five divisions of NASCAR racing.

Granite Bay’s Englehardt won the season opener for the Modifieds and was fast-time on Saturday night as well. 12 Modifieds staged for the first 35 lap contest, with Englehardt starting ninth after the invert. Matt Manolis was part of a three-wide duel at the start to the take the lead while Englehardt ended up collecting the turn three cones to bring out an early caution.

With the cones removed from Englehardt’s nose, racing resumed. Lyons looked underneath Manolis and took the lead on lap nine. Michael Mitchell of Loomis followed into second as well. Drivers raced two-by-two for third behind them. Several cars went to the pits during a lap 15 caution flag including Manolis with transmission issues.

The exclamation point of the race arrived on lap 32 when Englehardt made contact with the rear of Lyons for the lead entering turn one. Lyons spun and Englehardt suffered terminal damage for the race. Lyons was protected as the leader by race officials and given his spot back. Lyons never looked back to take the win over Auburn’s Derrick Doering and Josh Blackwood.

The second 35 lap main event lined up inverted from the first race results. It allowed Englehardt to lead lap one after starting second. The race was all green until a lap 15 caution. An additional caution brought the race to its critical restart on lap 21. Englehardt got sideways on the front stretch on the restart with contact from Lyons. Each car on the inside row suffered damage, including Mitchell’s rear body work being peeled back. All the cars involved were able to continue and the race was fully restarted.

Englehardt maintained the lead and withstood an additional restart with six to go to score his second win of the season. Lyons was second ahead of dash winner Tyler Wentworth, Mitchell, and Doering.

The newly combined NASCAR Super Stock division had perhaps its most competitive race with Roseville’s Dan Farrington coming out on top. A nine-car inversion forced Farrington, the fast-time qualifier, to earn his way to the front. Former Bomber track champion Blake Disomma was the early race leader while Farrington was up to second place by lap 12. Farrington jumped outside Disomma to take the top position by the 14th lap.

A caution on lap 19 erased Farrington’s lead over Andrew Peeler of Sacramento. After brief side-by-side racing, Farrington pulled away for a comfortable win. Peeler finished second while dash winner Gary Eisenhour was third.

Ray Molina won his second consecutive F4 feature by only leading the final lap of competition. Roseville’s Hailey Woessner led the opening lap before Matthew Fuhs took over. Molina ran all over the back bumper of Fuhs for the entire duration of the main event. On the final lap, Fuhs went low and Molina went high to take a lapped car three-wide. The maneuver worked for Molina as he narrowly beat Fuhs to the finish line by .101 seconds. Woessner finished third for an all-Roseville driver podium.

Trey Daniels of Fort Bragg won both the dash and the 20-lap feature for the Bandoleros. The 10 year-old driver has had a perfect start to his All American Speedway career.

Daniels faced early pressure from fast-time qualifier Dylan Krug of Rocklin before Krug spun exiting turn four on lap three. Loomis’ Kenna Mitchell took the opportunity to challenge Daniels for much of the race. Daniels pulled away late in the running for a commanding six second victory ahead of Mitchell and Hannah Ray rounding out the podium.

Fort Bragg’s Aiden Daniels, age 14 and older brother to Trey Daniels, won a hotly contested Jr. Late Model main event. The event attracted the best field in its short tenure with five drivers ages 10-16 years old in action.

14 year-old Calvin Hegje of Orangevale won the dash and took the lead from the pole position. Daniels attempted to take over second from Smartsville’s Brody Armtrout but the two tangled into turn three. Both Brodie Reidman and Lane Anderson were gathered in the incident for a lap three caution. Armtrout and Daniels then had another incident into turn one as well, bringing out an additional caution flag.

Hegje slowed on the following restart with a flat tire which allowed Daniels to assume a lead he never relinquished. Armtrout finished second with Hegje returning to the race to finish third.

Alan Bridgeman won the 10-lap, $1000 to win Riebe’s Trailer Bash. He also won best theme for $250 while Fair Oaks’ Chase Moore won the $250 Master of Destruction prize.

NASCAR racing continues at the All American Speedway on Saturday night May 18th with Late Models, Modifieds, Jr. Late Models, Super Stocks, F4s, Mini Cups vs. Bandoleros, and the touring Legends of the Pacific.
