ROSEVILLE, CALIFORNIA (October 14, 2018) – Cole Moore of Granite Bay won his third Pacific Challenge Series presented by Penneylawyers.com race of 2018 on Saturday night, dominating the October Classic 100 at All American Speedway in Roseville, CA. The win was ahead of Jason Romero, who used his fourth runner-up finish along with two victories to close out the 2018 championship.

Romero won the Sunoco Fuels fast time as well but drew the seventh position to start alongside championship rival John Moore on the starting grid. The 100 lap feature was the nightcap for a huge evening of racing that included a 200 lap NASCAR K&N Pro Series, West race and a 60 lap North State Modified Series event before over 3000 fans at the one-third mile oval.

The first caution flew on lap five when Dave Byrd spun in turn four and both Mike Hite and Austin Gant were involved. The restart saw Hite spin into turn one and collect Byrd, who spun hard into Hite’s driver’s side door. Byrd was out of the race but Hite made numerous pit stops and was able to continue on.

Matt Wendt of Galt spun trying to get underneath Adam Lemke for a caution on lap eight. On the restart, Lemke battled with Matt Scott for third while Jack Wood looked outside Moore for the lead. Scott and Lemke touched, with Scott suffering a left front flat tire and stopping the car to draw a caution on lap 11.

Wood ended up getting the lead on lap 12 on the restart, but Moore fought back to lead lap 13. Romero chipped away at the pack to advance to third past Lemke by lap 16.

Romero then challenged Wood for second before they made contact in turn one that sent Wood spinning and relegated Romero to the rear. On the restart, Lemke put up a nice challenge to Moore but Moore won the battle for the lead. Scott returned onto the race track and slowed in front of Lemke as the leaders attempted to lap him. He was black flagged by PCS officials as his car went up in sparks after the contact that ensued with Lemke.

The race went green for 49 consecutive laps which allowed Moore to build up a straightaway advantage over Lemke while Romero and Wood raced hard from the back of the field. The duo closed down on Matt Wendt and contact forced Wendt back behind them both on lap 54. Wendt went up in sparks and came to a stop in turn two for the next caution on lap 72. Romero knifed inside John Moore to take third on the following restart. Wood then made a daring three-wide maneuver a few laps later to get fourth from Moore and Mike Beeler.

Romero worked through lapped traffic and got around Lemke on lap 90 for second place but ran out of time to reel in Cole Moore. Cole Moore darted to a 1.377 second victory while Romero ran second to finisxh 24 points ahead of John Moore in the championship. Lemke’s debut yielded a strong third place followed by Wood and Beeler. John Moore was sixth. Romero’s move from seventh to second also grabbed the Penney Racing Supply Hard Charger award.

Cole Moore, Mike Beeler, and Dave Byrd rounded out the top-five in the final championship points.

SACRAMENTO, CALIFORNIA (October 9, 2018) – Cameron Park’s Jason Romero will try to close the deal on his first career Pacific Challenge Series presented by PenneyLawyers.com championship, when the series hits All American Speedway in Roseville, CA on Saturday night. The event is one part of one of the largest short track events in the western United States, anchored by a 200 lap NASCAR K&N Pro Series West race, the championship for the North State Modifieds, the 100 lap PCS championship, Super Stocks, and Mini Cups vs. Bandoleros. All told over 400 laps with more than 80 race cars make up the ambitious evening.

In an encore to last season, the Pacific Challenge Series’ Super Late Model drivers conclude the evening for $2500 to win. Last year’s race saw John Moore spin into the front stretch wall to end his championship hopes and hand the title to Mike Beeler for his second career title. Jason Romero drag raced with Matt Wendt over the final stages of the event before narrowly missing out on victory.

Coming into 2018, Romero enjoys a 16 point advantage over Moore that represents eight positions on the race track. Traditionally a home race track for the series, Saturday is the only appearance at the one-third mile this year. Moore, of Granite Bay, also ranks Roseville as a home race track but has never won a touring stock car race there.

Beeler ranks third in the standings and has a win and at least four second place finishes at Roseville with the PCS. 2018 Ukiah winner Cole Moore won at Roseville in 2017 and is currently fourth in the championship. French Camp’s Dave Byrd has advanced to fifth in the standings in his maiden PCS season. The veteran driver has not competed at Roseville since 2012.

Matt Wendt ended 2017 with two consecutive victories. His 2018 season has been a complete 180 with six consecutive DNFs. Returning to the site of his most recent victory will hopefully bolster the performance for the driver out of Galt. Carlos Vieira, three-time track champion Matt Scott, Elk Grove’s Mike Hite, and Roseville’s Shannon Mansch round out the top-ten in the points.

Elk Grove’s Shane Butler and Del Oro High School student Jack Wood of nearby Loomis, CA are among those attempting series returns at Roseville. Wood was the 2017 PCS Rookie of the Year with a perfect season of all top-ten finishes. He has not competed with the series yet in 2018.

Activities begin Friday night with practices from 5 p.m. - 9:15 p.m. On Saturday pit gates open at 9 am with the first practice at 1:30 p.m. The final PCS practice at 3:25 p.m. serves as qualifying. Grandstands open at 4 p.m. with a full night of racing for Mini Cups, Super Stocks, North State Modifieds, and the NASCAR K&N Pro Series, West. The Pacific Challenge Series concludes the huge night at 9 p.m.

MADERA, CALIFORNIA (August 11, 2018) – A pressure-filled 63 lap green flag run to finish ended with Carlos Vieira taking his third career Pacific Challenge Series presented by PenneyLawyers.com victory on Saturday night at Madera Speedway. Vieira, of Livingston, CA, outlasted points leader Jason Romero in arguably the closest series event at Madera yet.

Vieira topped a narrow Sunoco Fuels qualifying session by .002 seconds over Romero which saw only .086 seconds across the top-six. The American Racer Tire Dash for a set of tires went a different direction with Galt’s Matt Wendt winning it for the second event in a row.

Wendt led the opening two laps of the 75 feature on the one-third mile before Cole Moore edged forward from the outside to lead lap three. Vieira used the outside himself to nab second from Wendt not long after. John Moore and Matt Scott had a nice side-by-side duel for fourth behind them as well.

Vieira didn’t waste any time attacking Cole Moore using the inside to take the lead on lap seven. The leaders all started to move upstairs on the two-groove race track before things came to a halt on lap 12. A multi-car melee that included defending champion Mike Beeler, Mike Hite, and debutants Jacob Smith and Tyler Herzog blocked the front stretch for a red flag. For the third consecutive PCS event at Madera, Hite was eliminated with crash damage. The other three drivers continued on.

John Moore used the restart to seize third from Wendt while Matt Scott battled side-by-side with Romero for fifth. Ripon’s Mike Ray suffered mechanical problems that bounced him from the race on lap 27.

The Moores continued to battle as John Moore took over third from Cole Moore on lap 34 and went after Vieira for the lead. On lap 37, the top-six cars ran virtually nose-to-tail as the intensity never relented. Romero turned up the wick, passing Scott then getting third from Cole Moore on lap 38. John Moore started to challenge Vieira, with the duo making hard contact in turn four on lap 39. Romero closed down on them from third before the leaders made contact again on lap 46 in turn four.

Romero nosed inside Moore on several occasions for second place before finally clearing Moore on lap 68. The remaining seven laps saw Romero try high and low to get around Vieira, going upstairs in turns one and two with three laps to go to no avail. Carlos Vieira fended off Romero for his third career Pacific Challenge Series victory after a 63 lap green flag run, with John Moore a close third. Cole Moore and Matt Scott rounded out the top-five.

The championship battle sees Romero gain two points on John Moore for a 16 point gap heading into the 2018 championship race on October 13th at All American Speedway in Roseville, CA. The originally scheduled round #7 at Roseville on September 8th has been cancelled and the speedway will instead run a 150 lap special event for their local Late Model division.

SACRAMENTO, CALIFORNIA (August 7, 2018) – Arguably the most competitive venue in the Pacific Challenge Series presented by PenneyLawyers.com will welcome the Super Late Model series on Saturday night as drivers face Madera Speedway. The one-third mile asphalt oval routinely attracts a wide-variety of local drivers to compete with the PCS regulars.

Saturday’s race tickets are valued priced at $15 for adults and the program also includes Legends of the Pacific, Hobby Stocks, CSS 360 Super Modifieds, USAC Western US Midgets, and Modified Super Toyotas.

The showdown for the series championship between Cameron Park’s Jason Romero, John Moore, and Mike Beeler has simmered down just a bit on the heels of Romero’s fourth top-four of the year at Stockton in July. John Moore’s engine failure led to a DNF, allowing Romero to extend his points lead to 14 points over Moore with Beeler an additional two points behind.

Cole Moore’s win at Stockton was his second of the year and third of his career, moving up to fourth in the points within 34 points of the lead. Romero finished eighth at Madera in March and is still looking for an elusive win at the speedway.

French Camp’s Dave Byrd had his best weekend of the season at Stockton, running fourth in practice and finishing sixth in the feature. Byrd will look to continue to make gains from fifth in the points standings. Galt’s Matt Wendt won the American Racer Tire dash at Stockton but contact with Cole Moore led to a rear end failure for Wendt’s fifth consecutive DNF. The DNFs have been a surprise after he won the final two races of 2017.

Carlos Vieira has won twice at Madera with the PCS and finished third at Stockton in July as well. Elk Grove’s Mike Hite expects to return for Madera as do several others in the PCS fold. Roseville’s Shannon Mansch, Matt Scott, and David Miller round out the top-ten in the standings.

The contingent of local drivers saddling up for Madera is expected to feature Ripon drivers Michael Sandoval and Mike Ray along with Madera Late Model standout Tyler Herzog, cousin of track points leader Austin Herzog. Bakersfield’s Jacob Smith will make his PCS debut and hope to duplicate the success of other debutants this year such as Kolby Berry who was third at Ukiah and Michael Mitchell who ran sixth at Shasta.

Activities begin Friday night with practice from 5pm to 8pm. Madera Speedway charges $40 per pit pass with no car fees. On Saturday, pit gates open at 12:30pm with practice from 2pm to 4pm Qualifying will follow with opening ceremonies at 6pm followed by the PCS American Racer Tire Dash, a full program of main events, and a 75 lap nightcap for the PCS. The main events will be broadcasted live by Madera Speedway on both Facebook and their YouTube account Short Track TV.

Tickets are $15 for Adults, $13 for Seniors & Military, $7 for youth 6-12, and kids five and under are free.

STOCKTON, CALIFORNIA (July 22, 2018) – 2015 Pacific Challenge Series presented by PenneyLawyers.com Rookie of the Year Cole Moore outlasted a challenging evening at Stockton 99 Speedway for his second PCS win of the year, Saturday night. Moore came out on top over points leader Jason Romero in a thrilling battle in an attrition-shortened 60 lap sprint race.

Romero set the standard of the night early with a 13.366 lap in time trials to take the Sunoco Fuels Fast Time by .147 seconds on the field. Romero only mustered eighth in the American Racer Tire Dash while 2016 series Rookie of the Year Matt Wendt won the dash for the pole and a set of tires.

Wendt led early while third starting John Moore made slight contact with his son Cole to take second on lap two. Moore then passed Wendt for the lead on lap nine as the top nine cars ran closely together. Romero was still mired in eighth, facing a battle with Michael Sandoval.

Cole Moore and Wendt made contact in turn one for a lap ten caution, with Cole using the “tap out” rule to accept blame for the incident. It put Cole Moore to the rear of the field and Wendt back into second place.

The contact proved to cause significant damage to Wendt’s rear end, however, as he faltered coming to green causing an accordion of bumping among the field before he retired to the infield.

John Moore then spun abruptly into turn three on lap 13 while leading, gathering up former track champions Matt Scott and Dave Byrd in the process. Moore’s spin was caused by a blown engine and Scott was eliminated from the race as well. Mike Ray had his second spin of the race on the following restart, reducing the field to six cars running.

The race was then shortened by officials to 60 laps as the top six battled to the finish. Sandoval and Byrd had an incident that caused a quick yellow and bunched things up. Cole Moore took the lead from Romero on lap 20 followed by Madera winner Carlos Vieira, before Vieira faded behind the top-two. Romero showed Moore a nose on lap 43 and tried again as they approached promoter Tony Noceti’s $500 bonus for leading lap 50. Cole Moore led that lap while Romero stayed in lockstep.

They remained in lockstep down to the wire. Romero took a look inside when Cole went up the hill in turn two on the final lap. Moore wisely defended the inside line through turns three and four and motored away for his third career Pacific Challenge Series victory. Romero extended his points lead from second with Vieira, Beeler, and Sandoval the top-five. Romero also won the Penney Racing Supply Hard Charger for his run from eighth to second.

Romero now leads John Moore by 14 points with the series readying for Madera Speedway on August 11th.

SACRAMENTO, CALIFORNIA (July 18, 2018) – The lone appearance in 2018 of the Pacific Challenge Series presented by PenneyLawyers.com at Stockton 99 Speedway is up next with the Super Late Model series visiting the quarter-mile on Saturday. The historic speedway has been an important venue for the series since its inception.

Saturday’s race is no exception as just 14 points separate the top three in the standings at the halfway point of the eight race campaign. Sweeping both Shasta Speedway races has propelled 2009 All American Speedway Late Model champion Jason Romero to the top of the PCS mountain by four points over 2015 champion John Moore. Moore has finished no worse than fifth all season, bolstered by a second place run behind Romero in June at Shasta and a third place effort to open the year at Madera.

Two-time and defending champion Mike Beeler of Modesto rounds out the top-three after a seventh place finish at Shasta dropped him 14 points out of first. Beeler and Moore each have enjoyed a pair of wins at Stockton and each won Stockton during championship winning seasons. Both will hope that trend continues in 2018.

2015 Rookie of the Year Cole Moore has been snake bitten by mechanical problems but a victory at Ukiah has allowed him to hold steady in fourth. 17-time stock car champion Dave Byrd of French Camp is among those that count Stockton as a home race track and will do his bidding from fifth in the standings.

Stockton Super Stock Tri-Holiday champion Matt Wendt moved into the PCS in 2016 and won the 2017 September race at his home track. Wendt is currently sixth in the standings, followed by Shannon Mansch of Roseville. Mansch won a Westcar Late Model Series event at Stockton in May 2006 en route to becoming the first female touring stock car champion that year.

Coquille, OR’s David Miller, Valley Springs’ Tracy Bolin, and Ukiah’s John Dalerio round out the top-ten in the standings. Two-time Madera PCS winner Carlos Vieira of Livingston, CA is expected in action on Saturday night along with Elk Grove’s Mike Hite and former Stockton Late Model champion Matt Scott of Pine Grove, CA among others.

Stockton 99 Speedway has loaded the deck with action this weekend, with the popular Stockton Late Models and Bombers competing along with a Legends of the Pacific national qualifier race and an appearance by the B4 Cylinders division.

Friday practice sees gates open at 2 p.m. with the track open until 8 p.m. On Saturday pit gates open at 1 p.m. while grandstands open at 5 p.m. Racing starts at 6 p.m. Adult tickets are $20 for ages 16+, while Juniors, Seniors, and Military are $15. ANDERSON, CALIFORNIA (June 23, 2018) – Cameron Park’s Jason Romero won his second consecutive Shasta Speedway victory, and seventh career in the PCS, taking Saturday’s 100 lapper during the Shasta District Fair in Anderson, CA. A strong crowd weathered 100 degree temperatures to watch 15 Super Late Models compete in the feature presented by PenneyLawyers.com

John Moore led the Sunoco Fuels qualifying while his son Cole Moore won the American Racer Tire Dash. Cole Moore started on the pole on the 3/8ths mile speedway alongside PCS debutant Michael Mitchell of Loomis, CA.

Cole Moore jumped out to the early lead while Coquille, OR’s David Miller fell backwards from the outside line. Mitchell drifted backwards as well when John Moore took over third on lap six. Mitchell found himself pinched outside and he fell back to seventh by lap eight.

Romero hounded Cole Moore much like he did at the Ukiah race in May. Romero took several looks inside Moore on both ends of the race track, and the duo went side-by-side as they lapped Dave Byrd in a three-wide move on lap 33.

The continual challenges paid off when Romero took the lead on lap 36. John Moore passed Cole a few laps later for second allowing the top-two in the points to hold the top-two on the race track.

Anderson’s Derek Copeland passed Napa’s James Bickford for fifth on lap 50 and Modesto’s Mike Beeler fell down a lap on lap 52. The race finally had its first caution in the grueling affair on lap 61 when Ryan Lentz spun in turn four. Matt Wendt escaped to the pits just before the caution and did not return.

Copeland and Mitchell used some sneaky maneuvers to knife up into third and fourth on the restart with Cole Moore relegated from third to seventh. Cole Moore tried to challenge James Bickford before Bickford’s night ended when he slowed for a caution on lap 74.

The ensuing restart was a wild one when Romero led the field to green and had contact with third place Copeland. Romero came to a stop in the infield and officials deemed it a false start. Romero was able to get a second chance inside John Moore and motored away while Moore and Copeland made contact that sent Moore up the hill in turn one.

Cole Moore tagged the wall on the front stretch and retired to the pits on lap 81, putting all eyes on the battle for second between Copeland and John Moore.

Jason Romero cruised home to victory to the appreciative crowd. The battle for second had a wild run to the finish side-by-side, bouncing off of each other, with John Moore narrowly nipping Copeland at the stripe. Miller and Hite rounded out the top-five.

Romero will enjoy a four point advantage on Moore in the standings when the series resumes on July 21st at Stockton 99 Speedway.

SACRAMENTO, CALIFORNIA (June 20, 2018) – The Shasta District Fairgrounds will come to life with the touring stars of the Pacific Challenge Series on Saturday, with a large contingent of drivers from across Northern California expected at Shasta Speedway. The fourth round of the PenneyLawyers.com backed series brings Super Late Models to the 3/8ths mile for their second appearance of the year.

Bombers, Hornets, and Legends will also be competing and all fair tickets will include admission into the races.

In April, Jason Romero of Cameron Park, CA set a sizzling track record lap of 15.428 seconds that he parlayed into the race victory. Romero’s victory also is part of his points leading season. Romero was eighth at Madera in March before the Shasta win in April and a runner-up finish at Ukiah in May. His points lead is a narrow two points over former series champions John Moore of Granite Bay and Mike Beeler of Modesto.

Moore, the 2015 series champion, has had a consistent campaign with finishes of third, fourth, and fifth. He nearly won the $5,000 to win Limited Late Model event at Roseville last weekend. His career best PCS finish at Shasta is a second place run in 2017.

Beeler, winner of the 2014 and 2017 titles, has seen his season go the exact opposite direction of Moore. His year opened in fifth at Madera before fourth at Shasta and third at Ukiah. He’d like to improve two spots better for his first Shasta win on Saturday. His third place in April was his best career finish at Shasta in three PCS starts.

Cole Moore’s Ukiah victory was his second career win in the PCS and has propelled him to fourth in the standings. He opened the year with a pair of DNFs including a tenth place result at Shasta. The 2015 PCS Rookie of the Year made his Shasta debut in 2016 with a career-best third place finish.

Rounding out the top-five in the championship is Dave Byrd of French Camp, CA. The multiple-time stock car champion had a runner-up finish with the SRL Southwest Tour in 2007 along with a win and a second place finish in the prestigious Win-River 125 on the old 1/3rd mile configuration in the 1980s.

The remaining full-time car thus far has been 2016 Rookie of the Year Matt Wendt of Galt, CA. Wendt has not yet finished a PCS race this season but carries high expectations into Shasta.

Other competitors that travel with the PCS expected at Shasta include Roseville’s Shannon Mansch, Ukiah’s John Dalerio, and Elk Grove’s Mike Hite. Former NASCAR K&N Pro Series, West driver James Bickford will compete for Matt Scott Racing in the #35 Chevrolet. Bickford previously had a runner-up finish when the West came to Shasta in 2015 for the Bill Schmitt Memorial.

Local standouts such as 2017 Shasta PCS winner Derek Copeland, Brandon Williams, Dane Nissen, and Trevor Harrison will also be competing joined by several Eureka area drivers including Dustin Walters.

There will be no Friday practice due to the Shasta District Fair. PCS competitors will get a special practice session early Saturday instead. Pit gates will open at 10 a.m. with practice from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. Regular cycles of practice sessions for all four divisions competing will follow, with qualifying at approx. 5 p.m. and racing at 6 p.m. The 100 lap PCS feature will wrap up the exciting night of action at approx. 9 p.m.

Admission for the fair includes admission to the races. Prices are Adults - $10.00,
Senior & Military - $7.00 (62 & Over), Junior- $6.00, and Parking - $7.00.

UKIAH, CALIFORNIA (May 20, 2018) – Cole Moore led 72 laps and put together a masterful set of final restarts to prevail at Ukiah Speedway on Saturday night, charging to his second career Pacific Challenge Series presented by PenneyLawyers.com victory. Moore conquered the challenging quarter-mile bullring in a race that was a tale of two acts.

Shasta Raceway Park winner Jason Romero won the Sunoco Fuels Fast Time Award for the second consecutive race, but had work to do when the field was fully inverted for the American Racer Tire Dash. Romero finished seventh to start seventh in the feature while Coquille, OR’s David Miller won the Dash for a set of tires and the pole position of the feature with Moore finishing second for the outside front row.

Moore used his outside starting position to challenge Miller from the outside from the drop of the green flag, taking the lead on lap three. Defending series champion Mike Beeler used the outside line to move forward and brought Romero with him, with the duo advancing to second and third respectively by lap 11.

Ukiah’s John Dalerio started tenth and immediately moved to the front, passing a quickly faltering Miller for fifth on lap 16. Romero aimed high and low on Beeler in an entertaining race for second place while Miller anchored a four car line of cars from sixth through ninth positions.

Romero took over second on lap 29 but had a half-lap deficit to make up on Cole Moore by that point. Moore started lapping cars, lapping fellow front row starter Miller on lap 35. Redwood Valley’s Kolby Berry used the leader as a pick to advance up into sixth position but was also put down a lap a few laps later.

Matt Wendt struggled with rear end issues and was tagged by race leader Cole Moore on lap 59, with Wendt limping to a stop in the infield for the first caution of the race. Wendt surrendered to the pits as had Miller by that point. Both did not return.

Romero seized the chance to challenge Moore for the lead after a 59 lap green flag run. After pacing behind Moore for several laps after the restart, Romero gave him a pair of taps into turn three to grab the lead at lap 66. Romero missed his marks into turn one, sailing up the hill and off the edge of the track in turn two. He slid into the dirt to surrender the lead and force a caution flag.

Moore reassumed the lead while Romero tried to mount a comeback from the rear of the pack with just nine laps remaining. John Moore tangled with John Dalerio twice, first on lap 70 and again on lap 73. Both restarts saw Cole Moore pick the inside line against Mike Beeler and both attempts saw Moore drive away in convincing fashion.

The final two lap shootout was a mad scramble, with Berry diving inside the pack down the backstretch to nearly show his nose to race leader Cole Moore. He ended up sliding in front of Beeler for second with one to go. Cole Moore took a five car length victory while Romero crossed over Berry at the line to take a narrow second place finish. Beeler ended up relegated to fourth with John Moore just a few feet behind in fifth as well.

Berry’s drive from ninth to third earned him the Penney Racing Supply Hard Charger Award. The evening began with a tribute to Martin Disomma, the father of PCS official Blake Disomma. $100 was added to the winner’s purse for each division racing at Ukiah on Saturday, making Cole Moore’s win a $1600 victory.

SACRAMENTO, CALIFORNIA (May 16, 2018) – Round #3 of the 2018 Pacific Challenge Series presented by PenneyLawyers.com will tackle the challenging Ukiah Speedway with Super Late Model action on the quarter-mile oval. Saturday’s race will be the only Ukiah stop out of the eight race touring stock car series.

2015 Pacific Challenge Series champion John Moore of Granite Bay holds that same title in 2018, after a narrow runner-up finish in the 2017 championship. Moore comes into Ukiah fresh off an American Racer Tire dash victory at Shasta in April that he parlayed into a come-from-behind fourth place finish. Moore also finished third in the season opener at Madera in March. His record at Ukiah includes four top-fives including a fourth place finish in 2015 on the championship finale.

2015 Roseville Pacific Challenge Series winner and 2006 Westcar Late Model Series champion Shannon Mansch has rocketed up to second in the points. Her second place finish at Shasta breaks her tie for second in the standings with 2014 and 2017 champion Mike Beeler. Mansch has just one PCS start at Ukiah that yielded an eighth place finish in 2015.

Beeler has been one of the most successful drivers at Ukiah in series history, amassing nine starts, seven top-fives, and one win. Beeler and Mansch trail Moore by a narrow two point margin and will try to close that gap on Saturday.

Jason Romero’s sixth career PCS win at Shasta has moved him up to fourth in the standings, just four points out of first. Tracy Bolin’s fourth place outing at Madera has him fifth in the championship.

A trio of drivers find themselves deeper in the standings than they would have liked going into the year, with all of them aiming to turn their fortunes around at Ukiah. 14-time stock car champion Dave Byrd is sixth in the standings ahead of former Rookie of the Year drivers Cole Moore and Matt Wendt. Both have had race winning speed in previous Ukiah attempts, with Wendt coming close to victory last July at Ukiah. Combined across four starts each, the duo has only tallied three top-fives collectively at the bullring.

Madera opening night winner Carlos Vieira and last July’s Ukiah winner Randy Hedrick round out the top-ten in the standings. Redwood Valley’s Kolby Berry aims for his PCS debut after a productive career in Junior Late Models, and will be joined by Ukiah’s John Dalerio as some of the drivers looking to defend their home turf.

Action gets underway on Friday with practice from 6pm-9pm. On Saturday, grandstands open at 3:30pm with racing at 5pm. Adults are just $12, Senior/Student $9, Children 6-11 $6, and kids 5 and under are free! The family pack for 2 adults and 3 kids is $30. Ukiah Speedway is located at the Redwood Empire Fairgrounds. Bandoleros, Bombers, Legends, Jalopies, Jammers, and Pro 4’s will also be competing.

SACRAMENTO, CALIFORNIA (April 23, 2018) – The Pacific Challenge Series presented by PenneyLawyers.com will now feature five different race tracks across its eight race Super Late Model touring series, as Ukiah Speedway will host the series on May 19th.

The race has been moved from All American Speedway in Roseville, CA, as the track continues negotiations for a new promoter. Currently scheduled races at Roseville for September 8 and October 13 remain on the calendar tentative to the one-third mile completing their agreement.

Ukiah Speedway is the tightest quarters racing of the year on the high-banked quarter-mile oval. Randy Hedrick of Reno, NV won a thriller to take last July’s round and will be among drivers looking forward to the series’ return. Two-time PCS champion Mike Beeler of Modesto has been a dominant force at the track, scoring four top-twos in the last two years. His victory at Ukiah in 2016 saw him sweep around the outside of JR Courage in an exciting and decisive move.

The PCS runs once monthly this season, with Shasta Speedway following Ukiah on June 23rd. Stockton and Madera are also hosting races in 2018.

ANDERSON, CALIFORNIA (April 21, 2018) – Jason Romero won his sixth career Pacific Challenge Series presented by PenneyLawyers.com feature, and first outside of All American Speedway, by taking Saturday’s 75 lap feature at Shasta Speedway. Romero opened up the night of Super Late Model racing on the 3/8ths mile by setting a new track record before the decisive victory.

Romero’s lap of 15.428 in Sunoco Fuels qualifying lowered the mark previously set by two-time series champion Jeremy Doss of Upperlake, CA. Romero’s fast time placed him three tenths ahead of the rest of the 14 car pack.

The gap narrowed when the drivers competed in the American Racer Tire Dash. The eight lap contest’s lineup is set by a redraw, which allowed 2015 champion & 2017 series runner-up John Moore to steer his Camaro to victory ahead of 2006 Westcar Late Model Series champion Shannon Mansch.

Moore’s dash win gave him the pole for the main event, and he took the lead from Mansch at the start. He brought third-starting Romero with him. Several laps later, both Matt Scott and Cole Moore dove inside Mansch as well shuffling her back to fifth.

The top-four broke into two pairs of battles until Scott and Cole Moore came together in turn one with Scott spinning his #35 car. John Dalerio and Matt Wendt were among those who had to scramble to avoid the spin. Both Scott and Moore had to pit for repairs.

Romero passed John Moore on the outside to take the lead on the restart. The caution flew on lap 11 when debutant Jarrett Gilmer slowed with mechanical problems. Romero picked the inside for the restart which allowed John Moore to lead the 12th lap by a nose. Romero took the lead back the following lap.

Willows’ Dane Nissen spun in turn four for the next caution on lap 21 with Scott heading to the pits briefly for more repairs during that caution. Nissen also pitted and retired from the race. Romero and John Moore both spun into turn one when the race restarted, with Tracy Bolin among those who suffered damage in the incident. Mansch assumed the top spot with Romero and Moore restarting at the back of the field.

Cole Moore used the incident and the restart to advance up to second position around the outside of John Dalerio. Three laps later, Moore dove inside Mansch into turn one to take the lead. Bolin pitted again under the green flag run as his damage worsened and he failed to return to the race.

Cole Moore’s hopes for victory were dashed when he stopped in the infield on the backstretch for a lap 38 caution. Moore was able to re-fire and drive into the pits but it handed the lead back to Mansch once more. Cole Moore did not return to the race. Ukiah’s John Dalerio spun in turn four on the next restart but managed to continue. Dave Byrd spun into the infield, however, to force a caution.

Romero knifed his way through the incidents into second place. He took the lead from Mansch coming back to green and never looked back. Romero built up a sizeable lead until Dalerio spun again in turn four. John Moore pitted under the caution to surrender a top-five run.

Romero was undeterred, driving to a five second win while Mansch fended off champions Mike Beeler and John Moore for a well-deserved second place finish. Matt Scott came back for a fifth place finish while Anderson’s Ryan Peeples drove from 14th to sixth to win the Penney Racing Supply Hard Charger.

SACRAMENTO, CALIFORNIA (April 18, 2018) – Round #2 of the 2018 Pacific Challenge Series presented by PenneyLawyers.com will hit the 3/8th mile Shasta Speedway in Anderson, CA on Saturday night. The largest facility on the series’ calendar hosts the PCS twice in 2018, with local drivers aiming to challenge the touring stars of Northern California’s Super Late Model Series.

Saturday’s races take place during the “Kool April Nights” classic car event taking place throughout the area, making for a gearheads paradise in the north state.

Carlos Vieira won the 2018 season opener for the PCS at Madera Speedway in March. Vieira dominated the 75 lapper but faced company late in the race from hard-charging Randy Hedrick of Reno, NV. Hedrick settled for second place with 2015 series champion John Moore in third.

The 2017 visit to Shasta attracted an outstanding 18 car field and saw 2009 All American Speedway champion Jason Romero set fast-time and win the American Racer Tire dash before a flat tire knocked him from the lead on lap 18. Cole Moore also ran strong before he succumbed to mechanical problems late in the race.

Derek Copeland scored the hometown victory with John Moore coming home second and 2017 champion Mike Beeler finished fourth. Roseville’s Shannon Mansch and Galt’s Matt Wendt, both expected on Saturday night, finished fifth and sixth respectively. Other local Shasta drivers expected to compete include Ryan Peeples and Trevor Harrison. Willow’s Dane Nissen will make his return to the series as well. Nissen scored one top-five in last year’s Super 6 series that utilizes similar rules to the PCS. In 10 starts in the former North State Challenge Series, Nissen finished on the podium at Shasta twice.

Shasta is one of the few tracks where 14-time racing champion Dave Byrd has not yet visited victory lane. He came close in July 2007 – his last trip there – when he finished second in the SRL Southwest Tour series. June 2016 Shasta PCS winner Tracy Bolin finished third in that particular event as well.

Three-time All American Speedway champion Matt Scott will make his first start of the season, still searching for his first PCS victory.

Racing action on the 3/8ths mile will also include Bombers, Hornets, and Legends of the Pacific. Racing gets started on Friday with practice. Gates open at 1 p.m. with practice under the lights from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Pit passes are $45. On Saturday, gates open at noon with a $45 pit pass fee and a $100 PCS entry fee. Practice, qualifying, and racing will follow.

SACRAMENTO, CALIFORNIA (March 31, 2018) – Carlos Vieira turned in an encore performance Saturday night, leading the final 56 laps to take his second career Pacific Challenge Series race at Madera Speedway. Vieira’s win in the PenneyLawyers.com series matched his win in the 2017 season opener at the one-third mile speedway as well.

The event was a tribute to three Valley racing legends – Al Pombo, Marshall Sargent, and Smokey Hanoian. A strong Easter weekend crowd was treated to an Easter Egg hunt, open wheel racing, and the 75 lap Super Late Model race.

Vieira won the Sunoco Fuels fast-time and swept around American Racer Tire Dash winner Cole Moore to lead lap one. Eric Nascimento, Jr. charged up into second place on the third lap before a caution on lap seven when Jason Romero spun after contact with defending champion Mike Beeler. 2017 Ukiah winner Randy Hedrick stopped in the melee as well. Beeler initiated the tap rule where he took blame for the skirmish, allowing Romero and Hedrick to regain their positions.

Nascimento, age 16, started inside Vieira on the restart and seized the lead before Vieira crawled back onto his rear bumper. Cole Moore went up in smoke on lap 16 and under the caution period Thomas Suarez, in his series debut, lost a substantial amount of oil in turn one as well. After a lengthy red flag for clean up, things intensified for the lead position. Vieira and Nascimento had a slow restart that resulted in a serious crash behind them. 2017 two-time winner Matt Wendt and Elk Grove’s Mike Hite made contact, sending Wendt around and into the inside k-rail and tires. Wendt exited the car gingerly with assistance from paramedics.

The top-two of Nascimento and Vieira were sent back to the second row for their failure for a clean start, with 2015 champion John Moore and Romero assumed the lead positions. Moore took over the lead coming to green with Vieira quickly closing on him. Vieira took the top spot back on lap 22. Moore, Hedrick and Romero battled for second before Romero was able to take it just past halfway. Cole Moore’s night ended up in flames in turn one on lap 50, and Romero went after Vieira for the lead on the following restart. The charge was short lived with an axle issue ending Romero’s evening prematurely.

Hedrick stayed within striking distance of Vieira over the closing laps, getting within a car length on several occasions, before Vieira motored away for his second career PCS win. Vieira won by .317 seconds with John Moore, Tracy Bolin, and Beeler the top-five. Nascimento was seventh at the finish after a strong early showing.

“It was a tough race; great racing actually. I had a lot of fun tonight. Campbell Motorsports does so much hard work to get this car ready for the races. Madera Speedway – this is awesome! Kenny Shepherd does a great job,” Vieira said. “When you have a good car and you just concentrate on your driving it makes the difference. That restart I was questioning if I should be on the outside or not. I actually changed my line and stayed lower in one and two and higher in three and four and it worked out.”

In open wheel action, the Super Modified race was a master’s class in a race of attrition. Lance Jackson emerged as the CSS 360 victor as the only car left running, after Donnie Large and AJ Russell tangled in turn three on lap 11.

Mark Maliepaard won a history making BCRA Midget main event in a close duel with Chad Nichols and Scott Pierovich. 13 year-old Jesse Love, the 2017 51FIFTY Energy Drink Jr. Late Model champion, made his first full-size Midget start as one of the youngest drivers in Midget racing history. He finished fourth.

His Late Model racing teammate Adam Lemke of Hollister had the right stuff as he drove for a commanding four second win in the USAC Western US Midgets main event. Good Times QMA graduates Joey Iest and Blake Brannon rounded out the top-three.

SACRAMENTO, CALIFORNIA (March 28, 2018) – The Pacific Challenge Series presented by PenneyLawyers.com will begin its 2018 Super Late Model campaign on Saturday at Madera Speedway, after rainy spring delayed proceedings by two weeks. The PCS is now paired with an exciting evening of racing that honors valley racing legends Smokey Hanoian, Al Pombo, and Marshall Sargent. Allied Storage and Hampton Inn & Suites will present the activities that include the Big Egg Hunt and an undercard including BCRA Midgets and USAC Western US Midgets.

A wide-variety of talented drivers is expected to compete in the 75 lap feature on the one-third mile oval. Carlos Vieira leads those drivers after he dominated both PCS races at Madera in 2017. Vieira grabbed victory in the March race but recorded a DNF after contact late in the August event while leading.

The 2017 championship had six first-time series winners and the points went down to the wire with Mike Beeler becoming only the second repeat champion in series history. John Moore narrowly missed out on the crown with his son Cole third in the points. The hottest driver in the series was Matt Wendt who won two of the last three races of the year to be the series’ only repeat winner. Wendt ended up fourth in the final standings ahead of 2017 Rookie of the Year Jack Wood.

El Dorado Hills’ Jason Romero ended up seventh in the points buoyed by a runner-up in the March Madera race and a win at Roseville in September. Tracy Bolin’s fifth place finish at Madera to open 2017 was his best finish of the year en route to eighth overall.

Elk Grove’s Mike Hite, and Pine Grove’s Matt Scott made up the rest of the championship top-ten. Other winners included Derek Copeland at Shasta, Jeff Bischofberger at Stockton, and Randy Hedrick at Ukiah.

Grandstand ticket prices on Saturday have been reduced thanks to Madera Speedway’s fine family of sponsors. Adults will be just $15, seniors and military $13, youth ages 6-12 $7, and kids 5 and under are FREE!

The weekend’s activities will get underway with a Friday practice session, scheduled from 5pm to 8pm. Saturday’s race day schedule will see pit gates opening at 10 am with practices from 11:30am to 12:50pm Qualifying will follow. The American Racer Tire Dash be integrated into the vintage main events that begin at 4pm. Opening ceremonies commence at 5:30pm with the PCS set to be the night cap with a tentative green flag at 7:30pm

SACRAMENTO, CALIFORNIA (March 19, 2018) – The Pacific Challenge Series presented by PenneyLawyers.com will now open its season on Saturday March 31st at Madera Speedway, after rain soaked the originally scheduled March 17th weekend. The first of two appearances for the SLM series at the one-third mile will be paired with a variety of open wheel series including BCRA Midgets and USAC Western US Midgets.

A kids Easter Egg Hunt and vintage open wheel racing will round out the card that honors valley racing legends Smokey Hanoian and Al Pombo.

Parity has been the name of the game in the PCS for several seasons including six first-time winners in last year’s series. Carlos Vieira won the Madera season opener for his first career win. Popular Late Model and tour car standout Jacob Gomes has two career PCS wins – both at Madera.

Modesto’s Mike Beeler narrowly topped Granite Bay’s John Moore to grab the 2017 championship. 2015 Rookie of the Year Cole Moore finished third with one victory while two-time winner Matt Wendt, the 2016 Rookie of the Year, was fourth in the final rundown. 2017 Rookie of the Year Jack Wood was unable to grab a win but still finished fifth in the championship ahead of his cousin Travis Milburn. El Dorado Hills’ Jason Romero, Valley Springs’ Tracy Bolin, Elk Grove’s Mike Hite, and Pine Grove’s Matt Scott made up the rest of the top-ten. Other winners included Derek Copeland at Shasta, Jeff Bischofberger at Stockton, and Randy Hedrick at Ukiah.

The weekend’s activities will get underway with a Friday practice session, tentatively slated from 5pm to 8pm. Saturday’s race day schedule is still being finalized at press time.

SACRAMENTO, CALIFORNIA (March 15, 2018) – The season opener for the Pacific Challenge Series presented by PenneyLawyers.com set for Saturday at Madera Speedway has been postponed due to weather. Rainy conditions forced cancellation of Friday practice and unsettled weather on Saturday was also a factor.

A reschedule date will be announced at a later date. The Pacific Challenge Series is set for eight races in 2018 across four different race tracks, with the next scheduled race on April 21 at Shasta Speedway in Anderson, CA.

SACRAMENTO, CALIFORNIA (March 13, 2018) – Madera Speedway’s busy spring continues with the opening round of the 2018 Pacific Challenge Series presented by PenneyLawyers.com on Saturday evening, with 75 laps of Super Late Model action on tap. It will mark the sixth series appearance at the popular one-third mile speedway.

PCS Super Late Models will be paired with the potent Western Winged Sprints and USAC Western US Midgets providing fans with plenty of open wheel racing as well. Modified Super Toyotas, F4s, and a Jr. Late Model exhibition race round out the busy card.

Parity has been the name of the game in the PCS for several seasons including six first-time winners in last year’s series. Carlos Vieira won the Madera season opener for his first career win. Popular Late Model and tour car standout Jacob Gomes has two career PCS wins – both at Madera.

Saturday’s show will be run as an early season “matinee”. Friday practice will open activities with pit gates opening at 3 pm and practice from 5pm – 8pm. On Saturday, pit gates will open early at 10am with practice running from 11am -1:15pm. Qualifying will follow. The American Racer Tire dash will be at 3:15 with main events to follow. The 75 lap feature is the final race scheduled for the exciting evening, tentatively going green at 5:30pm.

Ticket Prices are $15 for adults, $13 for seniors and military, $7 for youth ages 6-12 and kids five and under are free
