Doss Dominates Montana 200

Via NSLMS Media

Kalispell, MT (July 21, 2018) In his fifth outing at the prestigious Montana 200, Jeremy Doss (Upper Lake, CA) nearly lapped the entire 24-car field on his way to the checkered flag and $10,000 check waiting for him in victory lane. This was Doss’s second Montana 200 win. A mix of drivers from Montana, Idaho, Washington, Nevada, British Columbia, Albert and Saskatoon made up the field.

Doss, who started the day third in the field, took the lead from pole setter Preston Peltier (Fort Lupton, CO) and never looked back. At the end of the day, Doss had lapped all but the second, third and fourth place cars of Preston Peltier, Owen Riddle (Naches, WA) and Clint Habart (Cranbrook, BC, Canada). A caution free second half kept any drivers from receiving the lucky dog award. Peltier was strong and set a good pace, leading the early stages of the race, but didn’t have enough to keep up with Doss to the checkered.

Peltier set a blistering qualifying lap to take the pole, which locked him into the front row of the feature event regardless of where he finished in his positioning heat. Jan Evans (E. Wenatchee, WA), who qualified second fast, was also locked into the front row. Twenty-eight cars qualified in an attempt to secure positions for the 24-car field.

With distributor issues going into qualifying, Owen Riddle had his work cut out for him, having to come from the B-Main to secure his starting position. Riddle quickly made his way to the top four by the end of the first half and took over third in the closing laps of the event.

Clint Habart was fast throughout the weekend, sat on top of the charts Thursday and Friday, and started in the sixth position. Battling back and forth with Peltier for the second position through a good part of the race, Habart slid back to fourth at the end of the day.

Braeden Havens (Spokane, WA) rounded out the top 5 after coming through the B-Main. Havens quickly moved into the fifth position and stayed on the lead lap until the final laps, when Doss lapped him.

Outside qualifier Jan Evans dropped back a few positions in the early laps and tangled with his Dad, Garrett Evans (E. Wenatchee, WA), who had improved several positions after coming through the B-Main. The resulting contact sent both drivers to the pits for repairs and restarting from the rear of the field. Both drivers went down a lap with Doss’s sizzling pace. Though they didn’t get the opportunity to get back on the lead lap, both ran well, Jan was running ahead of the fourth-place car of Clint Habart at the checkered, finishing in the sixth position.

2017 Champion, Brittney Zamora (Kennewick, WA) made her first start in the Montana 200. Securing a position in the top 12 to start the event, Zamora held on for a seventh-place finish in her first attempt.
