John Moore Extends PCS Points Lead With Ron Strmiska Memorial Win

Via PCS Media

STOCKTON, CALIFORNIA (July 1, 2017) - The Pacific Challenge Series presented by PenneyLawyers.com entertained a strong crowd at Stockton 99 Speedway on Saturday, with 2015 series champion John Moore of Granite Bay extending his 2017 points lead with the Ron Strmiska Memorial 125 victory. Moore led the final 42 laps of the feature at the historic quarter-mile oval as the fifth different leader of the race.

Moore's son Cole Moore led qualifying with a 13.142 second lap but it was former Roseville champions Matt Scott and Jason Romero drawing the front row for the American Racer Tire Dash for a set of tires. Scott won the dash which earned him the pole position alongside Tracy Bolin of Valley Springs. Bolin took the lead from the get go and led the first 21 laps of the feature. 2016 PCS Rookie of the Year Matt Wendt of Galt went around in turn two for the first caution of the race. Scott capitalized to take over the lead on lap 22 before the next incident on lap 37 that involved second and third generation drivers Colby Potts and Ross Strmiska. Bolin captured the lead back from Scott on the ensuing restart with Doss, Cole Moore, and Romero also working their way past Scott. Romero cleared Scott on lap 52.

A more significant incident on lap 72 saw both Ross Strmiska and JR Courage into the turn four wall to end their evenings, and Scott retired to the pits with a broken valve to end his night under that caution. Johnathan Hale spun one lap after the restart as two-time champion Jeremy Doss led the 72nd lap of the race. Cole Moore wrestled the lead away from Doss with Doss falling backwards with a flat tire that forced a lap 81 caution flag.

Bolin restarted second but fell backwards quickly as well to force another yellow flag before he headed to the pits for a possible flat tire. Cole Moore led his father John and SRL champion Jacob Gomes as the race resumed on lap 82 with John able to snatch the top spot away at the conclusion of lap 83. Four-time PCS race winner Jason Romero hit the turn four wall on lap 105 to end his night early as well.

After a delay to clean up fluid on the track, John Moore took off for the victory with Cole Moore, Doss, Travis Milburn, and Bolin rounding out the top-five. Second in points Mike Beeler of Modesto finished eighth while Johnathan Hale's drive from 16th to ninth earned him the Penney Racing Supply Hard Charger.
